Our First Meal In SPAIN Ends In DISASTER! MOTORHOME TOUR OF SPAIN (3)

We leave our first aire in Santander and head for our second stop which is Area del Lago Acebo. A very peaceful aire next to a lake with just two other vans here…UNTIL 5 hours later when 65 MORE motorhomes turn up and it turns into a party! Yes it’s a Spanish holiday and all family are making the most of it. We check out the village for food, see some elephants and make friends with a dog, attempt to try some free food before calling it a night.

  1. Hola amigos, loving your Spanish adventures!

Regarding phone data: from what I recall from other YouTubers, they’ve bought data sims in the country they’re in and used them so they’re not charged the roaming fees? Mazzie will be able to Whatsapp family etc & Dan respond to messages. You’d also be able to use Google translate which should help you understand the language more & you could search for a local Lidl or Aldi and do a food shop. Surely the little shops would have the basics like bread, milk, cheese, ham etc in so don’t be afraid to look.

The restaurant’s stopped serving food at 4pm but surely they resume service a couple of hours later? It’s awful watching you walk round looking for food 😢

Looking forward to today’s adventures. Adios! Liz & Gray (the bus driver from Stratford upon Avon!) ❣️

  2. I think it’s shocking that the Spanish don’t all speak English, top tip, if they don’t understand you first time, shout it again as loud as possible, that with all your excellent planning and knowledge of Spain will do you fine.

  4. We travelled from Portsmouth to santander on motorbikes, through northern Spain staying at Ribadesella, Ribadeo, plus a few more stops to Northern Portugal, Poa Varzim.beautiful coastal and mountain stays.we did learn some Spanish before but difficult to use in conversation but they appreciate you trying. We had to use Google translate quite a few times to communicate. We were away for 3 weeks…returned from Bilboa (where we had a 3 night stay at fabulous Castro Urdiales, 10 minutes fro the ferry port) back to Portsmouth. Loved every second.Enjoy the Spanish hospitality, enjoy your adventure x

  7. I turned 77 yesterday Mazzy… Happy birthday to you… I went to dinner with a friend and his French Girlfriend.. Her family lives near where you two are on the French side of the border… she has a hand held device that she uses to translate what she says into english.. It can translate from english to just about every language you can imagine.. To bad you don't have one of those.. They could speak into it.. and it will instantly give you a text and voice translation of what they said and vice versa… to them from you.. It's amazing..

  8. Mercadona is my supermarket of choice for quality of the meat products but some of them are impossible for us to park in and either the carpark is an underground one or there is canopies over the outside parking. Sometimes we can get parked outside and walk. Best for motorhomes is Carrefour hypermarket. They are massive and are usually part of a commercial centre so huge parking area. As a bonus there is often a McDonald's beside it.
    Have fun 🙂

  10. Emergency phazes to help you.
Dónde hay un restaurante? – If you’re in search of a place to eat, this is how to ask for a restaurant.
Dónde puedo encontrar…? – This phrase means “Where can I find…?” If you’re looking for something
De tomar, quiero/quisiera… – “To drink, I would like…” Simple enough!
No como… – “I don’t eat…” You can follow this up with carne (meat) for example, or any other dietary restriction you might have.
Necesito ayuda. – Short and to the point, this phrase simply means “I need help.”
Habla usted inglés? – If you’re in a situation where asking for help is necessary, there’s probably some explaining that you’re going to have to do. Use this phrase to ask if someone speaks English.
Dónde puedo encontrar a alguien que hable inglés? – This is a longer one, but it’s included because it’s important. It means “Where can I find someone who speaks English?”

  12. Don't matter where you are on the planet but let's be frank, for a tenner, if you get 2 beers, nice surroundings, 2 tuna mayo slices and a dog for company then I think your onto a roll! Granted San Miguel is real nice as far as a lager goes, but it's by far no John Smiths, I hate olives myself, pickled or normal, but… When in Rome do as the Romans do!… 🤣🤣🤣 Personally, olives and seafood are normally disgusting to me BUT, once enough San Miguelle has gone down your throat then I completely, totally, get it… Olives, fish and tapas en Espanol just becomes effin golden!!!

  15. Be cautious with what you think are freebies in Spanish amd Portuguese restaurants. Some put out olives, bread, etc can become a cost on your final bill. I learned this the hard way. Enjoying videos hope you both have a fantastic time!
