Oregon Football collapsed–but don't expect the progrum to | Oregon Ducks Podcast

It’s hard to comprehend how Oregon blew a 21-point lead late in the third quarter against Oregon State in a game in which the Beavers completed just 6 passes and threw 2 interceptions. Oregon misses its chance at a 4th straight Pac-12 Championship, and it feels like the sky is falling in Eugene. It isn’t.

On today’s episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin deals with the fallout from a calamitous game against the Beavs. The big picture for Oregon Football is still overly optimistic, even though it doesn’t feel like that right now. The Ducks have made strides from last year, but still have more to make under Dan Lanning.

The frustrations from Saturday’s meltdown are completely warranted for Duck fans. There is absolutely no excuse for what took place on the field, and it did not happen because Kenny Dillingham has left for the Arizona State job.

  1. If a 9-3 (possibly 10-3) season with a first year head coach in the toughest the Pac-12 has ever been is a bad season… then I’m alright with being a Duck fan 💪🏻

  2. Dan Lanning is a great coach. So what if we lost a couple of games. This has been a great year for the Ducks football. We are finally exciting to watch again. I support coach Lanning all the way.

  3. To expand on your closing thoughts, we are probably a bad snap over Bo's head from being 11-1. If Bo hands the ball off on that 2nd down (late in Washington game) instead of having corral a bad snap and toss it into the ground, Oregon is not facing the 3rd down run he gets injured on. Tough break.

  4. I could see Frosty as the new OC. He has likely learned his lesson about chasing the illusive "Dream Job". He waited until the season was over to return to Nebraska, therefore, he was loyal to the program. Like you said Spencer, "Nobody begrudges an assistant to self promote to a "Dream Job" after they earn that honor with their teammates. The difference is respect, acknowledging the contributions from those around to allow the success that leads them forward. Yup I would welcome Frosty back.

  5. Dude Dan Lanning is no Tiger Woods or Tom Brady. Bad analogy. You make me laugh dude. I’ve been watching college football for 46 years. You talk like you are the answer and voice of reason on all things college football. The fact of the matter is Dan Lanning is an unproven head coach that you are hoping and wishing turns out good. He has absolutely no track record of being a head that has won championships and led teams to success. He was a unqualified hire by your feckless inept athletic director Mullen . The funny thing is Kalen Deborer , Jonathan Smith and Dillingham will all turn out to be better coaches than Lanning. 😂😂

  6. Spencer, thank you for sharing a perspective way beyond your years…. as bad as the losses to both the beavs and the huskies were I would agree no one feels worse than coach Lanning. It's time to put theae games behind us and look forward because you are correct the future is bright.

  7. Maybe he'll find an OC that's capable of calling something other than terrible plays that result in negative yards when having the best offensive line west of the Mississippi.

Maybe he'll find an OC that doesn't call QB draws on 3rd and long, resulting in the only good player we have at any skill position being hurt for the rest of the year.

Maybe he'll find a DC that knows how to adjust to a team that can only run the ball, instead of putting 11 bums out there that can't stop a nose bleed.

Maybe he'll tell each and every recruit of Mario's to bore off and leave the team. So that there are no more soft pieces of 💩 on the roster.

Maybe he'll recruit a punter that's capable of punting the ball instead of getting it blocked or fumbling every time he touches the field.

  8. Ducks come short again, just like every season. Because you are Oregon. You are not LSU, Ohio State, MIchigan, or Georgia. And. Danny Lanning makes $5M so there is no learning curve. Win now or pound sand.

  9. I won't go as far as to say…." THE SKY is falling….in Eugene!!" I WILL say….give Lanning another season…..maybe two…..I DIG his Aggressive nature!! However….I'm not a huge fan of WHEN He decides to be Aggressive!! But that said…..I will stand by Dan UNTIL… I see " Season ending" bad decisions!! I haven't seen it…..yet!!

  10. I’ll be honest. It took me until today after that loss to look at anything Oregon football. Hats off to you for being so level headed and not pointing fingers like 80% of the fanbase. Great video once again, Spence
