  1. something something master plan, 2006.
"The strategy of Tesla is to enter at the high end of the market, where customers are prepared to pay a premium, and then drive down market as fast as possible to higher unit volume and lower prices with each successive model."

  2. Elon knows how to run Tesla better than anyone else and no one has more skin in the game. As an all-in TSLA long, I’m rolling with Elon. A company should not be managed in response to stock price fluctuations.

  3. Tesla stock holders don’t give a steaming pile of monkey 💩 about the difference between conventional MSRP pricing and Tesla pricing. They care about the stock price. Cutting prices = cutting profits. Cutting profits (without introducing profitable non-automotive revenue) leads to lower stock price. Why is Tesla in a race to the bottom?

  4. The beef is about the stock price. Price cuts are not good for the investors, they are great for the buyers, at least from the people buying now (not so much for the people that bought it a year or two ago). More than anything else investors are upset about Musk prioritizing FSD vs. a low cost car. The latest version of FSD is pretty good but light years away from a robo-taxi concept, Musk does not seem to get that. Another option Tesla has is to find ways to dramatically reduce the cost of M3/Y, with cheaper batteries, motors, perhaps new assembly methods, or make them in Mexico, to recover their margin. They have options but insisting on FSD being the savior is not credible for investors.

  5. You love Tesla, if it were a women, may be you will marry her :). Well, having said that I am also a Tesla fan, but I do agree that pricing reduction may be contributing towards share price drop, and so are other factors like, less than expected growth, and far from 50% growth YoY target, then lack of affordable Tesla is another one, and now we are not sure when will that happen. But the question to you is, if these are not factors in contributing to slide in stock, then what do you think is the reason.

  6. People who bought their Tesla’s thinking or hoping that they wouldn’t depreciate are probably the most upset … I have Shares but I can’t afford a Tesla, and looking at the performance of my shares rising and falling at the whims of the Stock Market Short Brigade is quite annoying. Giving them anything to Jump on and proclaim negatively will no doubt keep the stock value down. The fact that Tesla isn’t a Car company and isn’t just an American producer of product seems to have escaped the vision of Wall Street … one day they will probably look back and kick themselves for being so stupid as to not read the writing on the wall …. By then Tesla is likely going to be out of their reach and they will be scratching their heads about why … I see the lowering of Prices as putting more Tesla cars into the hands of the less well off ….

  7. New prices must hammer used prices, will people who already own one be happy to be paying out more and more as new prices drop, it also affects insurance write off values increasing levels of scrap which isn't helping the carbon footprint, but that was never a goal anyway.

  8. The reality going forward is that millions of Teslas (and EVs in general) will outlast most ICE cars and 20 years from now there will be a multi-millions fleet of used EVs still crawling around the roads that meet the low price needs of lower income drivers while ICE cars have broken down and in junkyards. . The auto industry will be very different as millions and millions of vehicles no longer need oil changes. Or brake jobs. Or transmission service. Or motor mounts, or really anything except lower range battery condition. But even then a 300 mile fresh battery will still be at at least 200 miles left which is perfectly fine for 90% of people’s daily needs. And by then the EV infrastructure will be everywhere. Price wars mean the supply of EVs 15-20 years from now are going to be robust.

  9. it is hurting their stock price. How can it not? If you pay $50k for a model 3 and the next year Tesla cuts the price to $30k, you lose 40% of your equity in the car. Why risk getting a loan on a car that could depreciate so much overnight. Tesla is NOT fighting a price war in the USA. Who would they fight with? They have virtually no real EV competition in the USA.

  10. Tesla, musk, got caught up wanting A Place at the Table. They started in on price reductions in reaction to the pressure legacy "power" (combo of auto, steel, insurance, energy, and finance, ~along with their owned and operated media outlets.) Play acting like the problem is more "A Chinese invasion" then the anti-capitalistic crafted intentional actions of ICE leadership over the past 30+ years. Tesla pushed the competition into price reductions before they were even breaking even.

The quickest route to transitioning, globally, to EVs is to increase the production of quality EVs while reducing demand for ICE. (Friends Don't let Friends Buy ICE.) To that point, generally, supporting other players in the field, "competition" IS the Pro move, given the authenticity of the goal. The role of "Not a PR department".

In this, as of yet, emerging EV/SWB market, considering the stated open hostility to EVs & transitioning to SWBs by legacy power, supporting other EV producers, startups, along with adjacent industries, is the move to increase overall industrial production. Until Tesla can replace the units that other manufactures are building, need no more help in providing the real total global demand, then pricing to eliminate startups, competition, is contraindicated. Vain.

  11. if you cant sell your used tesla because new ones are less then tesla screwed you. and they will always be less which means in future they will still be able to be sold for less as a used vehicle. You know the huge market for used laptops?? riggght there isnt any .

  12. It is very telling that you were taken aback that someone with a popular megaphone criticized Tesla and Elon. Some folks are not part of the cult and will say what they believe is a fact. Think about it

  13. Elon is right one one thing, other makers hide the fact that they discount and change prices all the time due to the way they interact with dealers. Tesla sells direct so doesn’t have that.

  14. Went to the dealership with a friend. He wanted a new Toyota 86. The dealership said the price was $26k. He talked to them for an hour. We left. Came back the next week and the price was $28k on the sticker. He talked to the salesman and the price was still $26k if he wanted it today. We left. Came back 2 weeks later and the price on the windshield was $25.5k Asked and the salesman was willing to take another $1k on his trade in making the price lower, down to $24.5k… nobody in the news cares about that, he bought it… Toyota prices are all over the place from week to week!

  15. You seem surprised at Tesla actions. In the history of ICE there were hundreds of manufactures that are gone today. Ford went Bankrupt at least twice.. The EV industry is going through the same shaking out process that the Auto industry has seen time after time… The big difference is the large number of low cost EV companies in China.. But China is going through the same thing..So relax.

  16. It is amazing how some people who have bought a Tesla are jealous that the next buyers are offered lower prices! It seems like for them what is more important that they get to enjoy this incredible new technology, is that those after them must not be happier. Sorry guys, but Mr. Musk's idea is not to build fancy cars exclusively for you, but to make Tesla a fun and practical brand available for as many people as possible.
