  1. A great way to start off my hump day! An Only in Japan live stream! Didn't you go to the park with the black crow during the cherry blossoms? WHOA! Pledge of Allegiance. I am originally from Malaysia and we do not have a pledge. OMG! I know what you are referring too as well!. I found some old footage of you…the video of you announcing the start of your hitchhiking trip! Definitely going to watch but I will make sure not to like or subscribe! lol.

  2. Thanks for the tour. Going to be in the general area on my upcoming trip, not really planning to stop in Okayama proper but seems like a decent spot to kill a few hours if something comes up.

  3. i had fun walking around okayama at night when i visited japan at the end of 2019. the main reason why i chose to stay at okayama for the night was that the hotel price was way cheaper than himeji. i took a lot of nice pictures of momotaro and the canal. the water was very clean and that impressed me a lot. can't wait to visit japan again when i have a chance.

  4. @7:04 – hardcore 懐かしい, John. This was my favourite Capsule hotel in Japan, I think. When I went back to visit in 2018, the rates were THE SAME as back in 2004. And it was just as lovely. Karaage and udon for dinner, and…just…now I'm tearing up. I love that place so much.

  5. My family spent a lot of time in Okayama Station. We stayed at the ANA across the street so it was super convenient to get to the station. Each morning my family would go to La Vie en France to get to get the sesame mochi balls. I'd go to a shop at the rear of the food area and get a 500 yen pack of 2 onigiri and 3 pieces of karaage to eat on the shinkansen. Fun fact my family originates from Okayama. There was a really nice traditional Japanese restaurant on the other side of the hotel where my mom's uncle took us to dinner.

We went through Okayama Kourakuen over to the castle. Hopefully they still have the bus route that's free if you have the JR Pass. It takes off from the station near the Momotaro statue and goes around to the garden and back. I liked the little snack shop in the back side of the garden, I got vanilla ice cream with a sour plum sauce on it.

  6. Ritsurin koen is another great garden that gets no publicity. It's in Takamatsu. If you go there, you'll have it almost to yourself. The train ride from Okayama is really good, goes over a lot of bridges.

  7. oO wow I am surprised you say Tokyo is so special for having places up longer but even in Tokyo most areas close so incredibly early …. except for izakaya and small drink bars even in tokyo everything seems to open from 09 – 17 only. Thats one of the very few things that are super annoying in my opinion and I had other people who noticed the same.

Some Supermarkets and Konbini run 24/7 but most small shops seem to be closed more then they are open even in Tokyo ^^V

  8. I stayed in Okayama for a couple nights last November. Used it as a base to visit naoshima art island. The garden and castle are quite nice. Kurashiki on the outskirts of Okayama is also worth a visit. The rest of the city was pretty dull though haha.
