Occultation of Mars by the Moon

On Wednesday, December 7th at 6:30pm (Pacific Standard Time) the Moon, as seen from North America, will pass in front of the planet Mars, emerging about an hour later. Carnegie and Mount Wilson astronomers will be hosting a live-stream of the event from Mount Wilson Observatory using a variety of telescopes, weather permitting. Join us to see this rare celestial event as well as other interesting objects in the night sky.

Livestream starts at 6:15pm. Occultation begins at 6:30pm, when Mars passes behind the moon. It emerges on the other side at 7:30pm.
