Reports that Prince Harry was in negotiations to step in to help the Royal Family while King Charles received cancer treatment sent ‘alarm bells’ ringing for the Daily Mail Royal Editor Rebecca English.
She tells this week’s Palace Confidential that while Harry might be open to the idea – and the prestige it would bring – there are plenty in the Palace who don’t want to see it happen. Richard Eden also points out the ‘rank hypocrisy’ of Prince Harry giving interviews slating the royal family one week, then adopting a much friendlier tone the next.

Employers expect people to work while in treatment for cancer. I worked through cancer treatment, which almost killed me. The Royals are all expected to do the same. Prince Harry only spoke his truth, there is nothing wrong or mean in that so please allow the family to be whole and loving.

As a Canadian citizen, I vividly remember the live day long TV telecasts in 1986 of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's visit to Vancouver to open the 1986 World Fair and newly opened Sky Train , placing Vancouver on the world stage. Those were dignified days for the Monarchy in Canada and show cased to Canadian's the value of the monarchy's role in Canada. In sharp contrast, in 2024, we have Princess Diana's son's commercially motivated less than dignified visit to Vancouver under the dubious cover of promoting Invictus , but in fact a mere self promotion opportunity as always. A real disgrace to most of us Canadians further exasperated by Prince Harry's choice not to provide a single interview to a Canadian Media outline, but tranced intro Vancouver and Whistler with an American Good Morning America media crew who as a foreign news agency clearly had a global media exclusive. Should his mother be able to view this, she would shed a tear for her son's behavior in the Common Wealth. I don't even want to think what the late Queen's sentiment would be regarding the newly minted California based monarchy's visit to BRITISH Columbia.
An observation here: only the children of Prince Joachim were officially stripped of their royal titles following their grandmother Queen Margrethe II of Denmark's decision. Prince Joachim kept his title.
