Nine ESSENTIAL Sondheim shows

Sondheim’s work is so monumental, it can seem daunting to beginners, even Broadway lovers. This video introduces perhaps his nine most prominent shows: West Side Story; Gypsy; A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum; Company; Follies; A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street; Sunday in the Park with George; and Into the Woods.

With selections from the most important songs and brief summaries of the plot, this video aims to help students decide which Sondheim show they want to start with — or watch next.

It’s a great introduction for beginners, and a good review for those with more experience.

Those nine shows will be discussed at The Broadway Maven’s three-hour Introductory Sondheim “boot camp” online on Sunday, January 22 at 1:30 pm ET. Visit TheBroadwayMaven.com to sign up.
