New World – "Lumberyard Is Killing This Company" – Amazon Game Studios 2021

I absolutely loved this article from Jason Schreier, this is the article I wish I could make but unfortunately I don’t quite have his level of investigative access. This answers so many of my questions and reinforces so many of the things I’ve been saying now for a year and a half.

Fate has summoned you to the shores of Aeternum, the Eternal Isle. Overcome the brutal legions of The Corrupted and draw battle lines with competing players in this open world MMO fraught with danger and opportunity. In a land hell-bent on your destruction, what will you do to survive?

  1. Just to clarify I think that New World is looking much better in recent months and it looks like they may have at least that project on the straight and narrow from here on. I'm much more optimistic about the project than I was 6 months ago, they've done quite a lot of positive changes. There's still a ton of unanswered questions and ultimately all I want is for the game to be the best it can be. This was fascinating how incompetent the handling of their gaming division has been though.

  2. I got through half of this and all you do is bash amazon and say they are bad. Nice job focusing on the bad. I have hope they can adapt and overcome. They have already made major updates just recently that directly came from player feedback and they are to say the least great changes. Get out of the mind set only a certain type of people came make a game or else we would never get anything new and fresh. I still believe new world be a great game.

  3. An anonymous source says full loot sandbox pvp games like Fortnite and Minecraft do pretty well. Another anonymous source says if you want to play a non niche MMO, then you are stuck with WoW.

  4. I liked the Beta. I would have paid for beta and enjoyed the game for many months. I know the final product will be as good or better. I will enjoy the final product for many months.

I really can't ask for more from a game than to enjoy playing it for several months. No game has ever been made that has held my interest for longer than a consecutive year. Or a total of two years over the life of the game.

If you play an MMO for greater than 3 months, you enjoyed the game. No matter what you remember about its flaws, it was a good game. 6 months, and it was a great game. If you quit before the first 30 days, it was absolutely f-ing awful. If you quit before 3 months, it was bad.

  5. Amazon is good at one thing, making money. They do this by doing whatever they can get away with that won't affect their profits. Stealing tips from their Flex drivers to pay them, selling the same products to undercut their own customers, treating their employees like slaves and paying them equivalent wages, the list is long. The fact that they do this with a game should be no surprise.

  6. Recall a story by a published author who frequently got people (at book signings, cocktail parties etc.) say things like "Yeah, I'm going to write a book; how hard can it be?". One neuro-surgeon was dismissive of writing, claiming he was going to write a book (sounded like he was intimating "over the next weekend off" to our Author). Author replies, "Of course. And after my weekend workshop on brain surgery, I'll be taking clients for surgery next week". Failing to comprehend the amount of research, study, hard work (and money!) that goes into being successful in someone else's area of expertise is a really common problem for many people. It takes more than a few weeks.

  7. Thank you for thr video and your passion for new world. i was as blown away by this article as well. I called this game failing for reasons outside of amazon but add this shit to the pile and its just broken beyond belief. Including having a huge happy extremely interested community after the first open beta then to only let all of that momentum die off over 8 months of practical silence from the company.

  8. I loved New World close beta and even the half open beta after some changes was great imo.

Sadly they changed something i didnt like, going from 3 weapons on you that you can use down to 2 weapons only.

But yes as of right now Amazon dosnt have any great games out, yet!

Hopefully New World will change that and the other mmorpg "Lord of the rings" at a later date will also turn out to be great 🤷‍♂️
    Only time will tell.
