This week I’ll be trying out some new trees as well as getting around to some of your requests!

  1. to get the magic wand tool to work on ps, there should be a little section at the top above the canvas labeled "tolerance" and a number next to it. just bring up the tolerance by clicking on the number and changing it and it should select a wider color threshold.

  2. The white buildings need more seperations instead of just being one big flat wall. Maybe a line of bricks in the middle?
Also just add some like, decorative stuff to it. Maybe a flower bed by one of the upper windows? Some ivy clinging to the side like you did on the balconies?

  3. I'm absolutely loving this series! I would suggest to use some textures in rome avanti, an example would be the brick texture used for the colosseum, i think they would work really well with some of the alleways buildings.
Really looking forward to see the final result!

  4. I wonder how it would look like if you would make another texture with quoins for the white building that are in between those dark brownish buildings. You made one for the white building that has grey quoins, making one with those brownish bricks of the brown buildings could make it look quite dynamic.

  5. 3:15 "I think it would make more sense to call it the Evil Cursed Artifact tool, because you have very limited control over this thing. It feels like performing surgery with a shotgun."

Holy shit this is so true hahaha. That thing is simultaneously my biggest ally and my greatest enemy all at once.

  6. i like these videos, i havent watched every single one of these so idk if you tried this yet but have you ever thought about using vertex colors? you could get some nice color variations by painting the bottom or top of the buildings only which would add a nice gradient to it, you can also paint the floors for color variation or even simulate simple shadows, another cool thing that you might have done it already by the looks of it, is baking ambient occlusion into vertex colors, since you added a lot of geometry like doors and windows, you can bake ambient occlusion into the vertex colors to simulate the lack of light when corners are near others

  7. Wasn’t addressed in this ep but gonna say it again, the layout you made for the shortcut through the grass is a bit too overpowered and long. I know this is your interpretation, but it doesn’t feel true to how the real game devs would build a shortcut

  8. This project has become a highlight of my weeks, and as someone that's played around with Blender a significant amount I can't say I wouldn't want to try something similar.

So here's a little tip from someone that's been in the transform trenches awhile: Use the 3D cursor to your advantage as a transform point. A good example is the shutters, you could have much more easily closed them by selecting the verts against the wall, hitting Shift+S, and selecting "Cursor to Selected" from that menu. Then, you could select the 3D Cursor as the transform origin and rotate the entire shutter on the Z axis. Keep that in mind if you want to add more shutter variation, and I'm sure it'll come in handy somewhere else along the line as well.

  9. I think a part of the problem you’re facing is that all the bricks are the same color. If you tried making some random bricks a slightly different color it could help make it feel more alive. You’d probably have to find a new texture for the grey buildings though.

  10. Mom! Bring the camera! I'm in a Charlie's Café video!

Glad to see my suggestion helped here, haha!
This series is going pretty well and it's also kinda addictive, lol. It would be cool if all of this was made into a whole video when the model reaches it's final stage.
    Keep it up, Charlie!

  11. Coming along fantastic so far!! To add onto someone else’s comment about color variation and the moss in the bricks, I think something else that has the potential to look really nice is some vines/moss on the buildings! I know you just removed the moss brick texture from one of them as not to use the same material as the road but I think stuff like that makes it feel nice and lived in, while adding some color variation 🙂

  12. What sort of rabbit hole do you have to go down in order to discover that the word "quoin" exists? I guarantee you, I will probably never hear that word again for the rest of my life.
