  1. So in the original there was 4 ways to obtain monsters.
    1) There was that luck system, where if you defeated an enemy, sometimes they would be impressed by your strength and they'd ask to join you after being defeated.
    2) You'd carry varieties of Meat in your inventory, the rarer the meat the higher it increased the chance that the monster would join you as well as decreasing their "Wild" stat (which is what determined if they listened to orders you gave them.
    3) You can buy or find Eggs. The Tiny Metal store would sell eggs of very specific monsters. And on occasion when you went on journeys to different worlds, you might find an egg as a reward.
    4) NPC Tamers at various points of the game would offer to breed one of their Monsters with yours. You'd often get hints at what they would like to breed their monster with to get something you more than likely never had before or a combo that revealed that even the same monster that is bred with its same species might come out as a different monster.

There was surprising variety when it actually came to obtaining Monsters.

  2. Also, for a completely different comment, I really dislike the "Size" mechanic they added in the modern installments of the game.

I like being able to have monsters with various teams, synergies, etc. Now, with Size being a think, certain monsters take up certain amount of slots on the field and therefore, sometimes if you have a large monster you can only have 1 small monster on the field with them. Or if you have one extremely large monster, that is the only monster capable of being on the field.

Sure the monster might be powerful as trade off but I honestly think it defeats the purpose of using a ton of monsters in the first place.

For example, I love dragons in video games. Pretty much my go to. However, I know just from experience in the previous games that many of the dragons take up 2 or more slots on a field. Meaning I'll be forced to just choose from my favorite rather than just being a "dragon tamer" and using many dragons.

    It's kinda sad honestly.

  3. The Deluxe Edition isn't even worth less than the Game + All DLC. You just get a few items (mostly 10 high quality food. Definitely not worth it)
Also, the Don Mole Dungeon (or equivalent) was free in previous games, so it's hard to be excited here…
I'm still hyped, because I love DQM games, because the precedent ones were incredibly fun (DQM2 3D Remake is a pure joy, and I loved DQMJ3 Professional way more than expected despite the drastically reduced roster)

  4. One consistent mechanic in the previous dqm games with the "show of force" (previously called scouting) was enemies eventually getting angry and preventing further attempts to capture, which while fine for normal monsters basically being a fail-state, it made catching the unique 2 and 3 slot boss monsters very reset heavy especially for the ones that needed a boss fight first. Hoping for either a removal or some way to calm monsters down after a failed capture in this game

  5. Let me try and explain it a bit better:
Talents are basically skill trees. Each monster has 1-4 branches that you can invest the skill points you get as you level up to learn said branch's skills. So for example, you put points into cure-all, you learn healing skills.

If you combine two monsters, the child'll get a branch from each of it's parents that it can then invest into as it levels up.

  6. You can synthesize a Missing Lynx? I remember how hard it was to recruit in Monsters Joker 2.

I like that they kept the size mechanic.Even if there are no giant monsters anymore who take up 3 slots (which was your entire party back then)

  7. I'm actually really happy with the taming method. They've combined the original DWM method of feeding and luck, with/or the Joker's method of using force/shwing off. So that's pleasant! I'm super excited about this.

  8. Id read through this myself yesterday. I was already interested in the game but then I saw Vampire Cat and decided I NEED this game haha.

I tried one of the Joker games back on the DS but didnt get far (too many other RPGs on that system). It doesnt help that I have a love hate relationship with the Dragon Quest art style. Im just not a fan of recolurs/retools. Still the monster designs here are looking good and im sure with the amount there are I'm bound to love some.

  9. My only question is will the game have uncapped stats like in previous games? the thing that turned me off of joker 3 was how hard the post game was even with good skills and moves. at the very least I'd like to be able to use earlier monsters for longer

  10. The games are so good and definitely have a little bit of a learning curve if you’ve never played one, but they are challenging and recruiting and fusing to get some mobs you can’t find is satisfying.

  11. Unfortunately, everything I'm hearing sounds like the older versions and that kinda sucks. I always feel like Dragon Quest as a whole is stagnant with their creativity. Nothing new even down to the same soundtrack from the early 90's. They sprinkle some new features an a new title.

  12. Wait wait wait. You are Green when it comes to the Dragon Quest monsters series? Despite having a channel focused around monster taming? You really need to play them! The series is about as old as Pokemon, even older if you include DQ5 where you could originally recruit monsters.

  13. Definitely excited for this game. So excited that I went out of my way and bought DQ11S for Nintendo Switch from Ebay just so I could get immersed in the world of DQ as this is my first time hopping on to this amazing franchise. Can't wait for DQM

  14. I don't know if anyone has addressed this, will it have the breed with other tamers option like the old gbc dwm games? You know the link cable function, not just the NPC breeds that are static.

  15. I don't know if this was mentioned but do the monsters evolve like pokemon through levelig up or do they stay in the same form? I'm new to this dragon quest too so there is a lot I hope you expand upon in a future video. Thanks!

  16. Not sure how I feel about their only being small and large sizes when the most recent Joker games had monsters that could take up 3 or even all 4 slots due to their sizes.

The Orc King monster appears to confirm that reskins/recolors of a monster will count as a new monster with a different rank. Hopefully it won't be as bad as Joker 3 that had a lot of reskins and felt like filler instead of more unique monster designs.

  17. I havent noticed anything theyve a noinced that makes the games mechanically much different from all the 3ds games. If you play 1 or all of them, you'll have a good grasp on this. Which would mean the show of force/scouting system is not like SMT, which is good be ause i think its one of the best taming mechanics in the genre
