  1. Do you think the New York Knickerbockers still would have gone after "The Pearl" had he not have knocked them out in the 1971 Eastern Conference Finals with Baltimore? The Knickerbockers got him before the 1972-73 season.

  2. Loved the video. Great clips and interviews. Today, with the 3 point line, he would be a prolific scorer. Wouldn't be on the all defensive team, but his offense would make up for it. Think – Steph Curry.

  3. I went to see the Knicks play the Celtics on April 5, 1977 at the garden. The circus was in town, so the players benches were on the opposite side of the court, compared to where they usually were. Security was cool in those days, and they let me go down to courtside with my friend Jim. During a time out I patted Earl and Clyde on the shoulder while walking past the Knicks bench, and that is my favorite Earl Monroe memory, The best ever one-on-one player ever, indeed.

  4. Man, Pearl and them Knicks used to beat my Lakers when i first started watching NBA, 1970 was the first year for me, Knicks had that great team and they had a strong bench like Boston always did before them i'm told. Pearl and Clyde were the coolest duo, though i will always love Gail & Jerry. I hated the Bulls with Norm Van Lier and Jerry Sloan, they used to beat up on Jerry and Gail, they still the meanest guards i ever seen play, bar none. thanks for posting this video cool to see the old footage again and glad the Pearl getting some attention again. He was like if Mercury Morris played basketball, with all those juke moves or Earl Monroe playing football with all his juke moves, depending on who your fave was.

  5. ..Oscar Robertson is the best basketball player EVER.

Nobody knows his name..because he was a gentle and nice man..holding tons of self-respect: that means humility.

If you dig hoops, and righteousness, study The Big O.

  6. I was a white kid from the suburbs. Earl was one of my favorites. I tried to learn his spin move. But I patterned my jumper on Jerry West. Earl was a great player for his time.

  7. Please stop referring to any person as “Black Jesus”; as if there was/is a Jusus who was not Black.

Please stop following the misdirection of Caucasian people. They are the first to initiate this lie.

  8. I grew up in Harlem on 126th Street. Earl visited my block and shot some hoops with us… The whole neighborhood came out Old and Young folks, Men and Women, not to mention the kids. My Moms (R.I.P.) worked two jobs and was always tired, and she even came out and got Earl's autograph. I'll never forget that…!

  9. See, when people talk about who the greatest is and they start with MJ and Lebrun, their perspective is incomplete and questionable at best. If you don’t talk about Wilt,The Pearl, the big O, Bill Russell , Elgin Baylor, Connie Hawkins,Ice Man, Doc, Jerry West, Larry Bird,Elvin Hayes and a host of others your not talkin about the truth ….
