I was called out earlier today by SEER KING for my comment about the importance of keeping the head and neck covered and that the human body loses quite a bit of heat in these areas. SEER KING stated, "@Storm Actually our bodies lose heat all throughout our body equally, the head thing is a myth "
My reply is below. I hope this user sees my response and provides the information that I am looking for. I have not once read that this is a myth. Just the opposite in fact and that coupled with my own personal experience. I'm honest enough to admit when I am wrong, but if I am, I'd like to understand where.
My reply – @Seer King 112022 It's true that our bodies lose heat everywhere but they are typically covered with clothes and a body fat layer that helps insulate us. The skull is very vascular with little to no fat (even despite the fact that I have been called a fat head now and then). You say it's a myth. I'm open to correction. Could you cite a source for me to follow up with? I'm seriously interested. I'll check back to see if you respond. Thank you. (Former EMT & SAR here)
EDITED TO ADD: I did follow-up on this. WEBMD states, ""The real reason we lose heat through our head is because most of the time when we're outside in the cold, we're clothed," says Richard Ingebretsen, MD, PhD, an adjunct instructor in the department of internal medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. "If you don't have a hat on, you lose heat through your head, just as you would lose heat through your legs if you were wearing shorts."
"There's really no such thing as 'cold,' when you're talking about the body," Ingebretsen says. "There's always heat — it's just a matter of keeping it in.""

In the end – We're both correct. The human body loses heat throughout the body including the head and back of neck. What I learned and passed along is that you have to keep your head, neck and extremities covered in order to prevent heat loss in a cold environment. It's important information to know. I'd like to have a sit down conversation with the author of the WEBMD article and question him on the vascularity of the skull and the lack of body fat and see where these two factors come in if at all.
Anyway, my thanks to SEER KING for the his earlier comment. It forced me to dig deeper and helped me to clarify my presentation for use in the future. This subject comes up every winter.

just close your eyes and count to three and all this will just disappear and life will be back to normal, well that is what most people seem to think. Comfort of a nice warm home, and no worries at all and just living life to the fullest and just ignore those loud bangs you hear, it's only in your head is what the media would just say.
I've been living in my Honda Odyssey Van for the last few years. Last night was 17 degrees. Butane lighters don't work, so get a Zippo. My phone doesn't charge at that point of cold…So…yes, I tickled my phone with the Zippo, and viola….phone started charging. Stay Warm everyone!
Tip(not medical advice, just sharing my story ;)) : I had high blood pressure, went to the doctor's and he tries to put me on meds to lower it, but I'm young and didn't want to.
I started running a bit, exercising, meditating, DOING THE DASH DIET, and monitoring my blood pressure 3 times each time and 3 times a day. I lost 5 pounds in a month, and my BP dropped from stroke levels(150-160 over 104) to decently healthy 140/103(the bottom fluctuates to 80's). Now I'm determined to be healthy for SHTF, AND NOW THAT I KNOW HOW BAD MY HEALTH REALLY WAS.

QUESTION. When prepping medical supplies for bugout bags; How are you suppose to have get some stronger pain medicines. In case someone in the group or family gets hurt yet aspirin Excedrin or Tylenol doesnt even ease it. since you cant just buy narcotics over the counter, nor can you buy seeds to farm your own if need be??
