While there has been significant progress in space travel over the past few decades, we are still hampered by the speed of our spacecraft. Researchers have achieved speeds close to the speed of light for tiny particles, but larger items remain a challenge. It is projected that it would take a modern spacecraft equipped with the most advanced technology and five months to go to Mars using fuel-powered jet engines. We’re on the verge of having airplanes that can fly from the ground up to the edge of space using nuclear power alone.
