Full Critque of Shadow of the Erdtree… if you could even call it that. ALmost every DLC they have ever made has been god tier so it had high expectations to live up to, and I think it’s safe to say that they did it again. Massive crop of new bosses and weapons. So good.

That clip with the falx killed me lmao, love you man
Great analysis. My only gripe with the DLC is having to collect fragments every time.
The Furtive Scadutree Avatar, so easily forgotten…
my main problem is scaling. Why da fak every cool boss is so weak, they deal miserable damage. Why radahn is way too overtuned, and other bosses are not. I feel like messmer and midra could be much more.. not radahn
Ive beaten it 6 times. Its honestly pretty mid imo. I put it right in front of DS2s dlc packs, DS1, and Ashes of Ariandel. Ringed city and Old hunters are just vastly superior.
The worlds only good-Elden-Ring-take-haver strikes again.
You actually can jump at least one of radahn’s attacks, both phase 1 and 2 versions of his double sword delayed circle swipe (the one where if you get hit he brings you up in the air and slams you back down). He swipes really low to the ground for that one. I was able to jump it. Honestly I have to give you credit for having that kind of experimental mindset, I wouldn’t have thought about trying it before I watched your vid on how to beat bosses. Idk about any of his other moves though lol
Gaius was broken as hell at launch. He was on you in as soon as you walked through the door.

I still dont like the open world. I just found it tedious and boring. The base game had too much side content, but the dlc didn't solve the problem. The world is just too big. If they can't put something interesting in a part of the world, then that part just shouldn't exist.
The base game was a massive world full of underwhelming content.
The dlc is a massive world with some okay content.
I want a small-medium sized world with only good content.
I loved how all of from softs previous games felt so dense. It makes me take my time with the game and appreciate everything. Elden Ring is so spread out that it just makes you want to run past everything.
Radhan gets absolutely wrecked by a greatshield, you dont need magic barrier or the talisman, or baracade. Just the Haligtree knight shield and the golden braid. Use Verdigras greatshield and you literally dont even need to pay all that much attention to your stamina 😂
I really do love Shadows of the Erdtree for the world design, exploration and dungeon delving, but the bosses… those are a mixed bag at best. I can enjoy them as spectacle, but mechanically I think these are some of the worst in any FromSoft game. I'm sure they are great for people that want something to push the limits of skill and reflex, but that's never been the point to me.
From the Dark Souls trilogy, through Bloodborne and even the Elden Ring base game, bosses could always be heavily punishing, but the sheer relentless aggression of the bosses in the DLC makes it hard to find any room to breathe. Even the go to answer for "scrubs", spirit ash are hard to use, when most bosses are in the player's face from the word go and rarely if ever let up.
This is the first time in this genre when I ever felt like I was being forced to change up my build for boss fights, whereas in previous games whatever was good enough to get me through the levels to reach a boss was usually also good enough to beat that boss. In Shadows of the Erdtree most of the remembrances bosses just felt like playing an entirely different game from the exploration. I did beat the DLC, but by the time I did there wasn't any satisfaction in it for me, because I was no longer playing my character which had carried me through the base game.
10:13 I'm not gonna hold you, I think you just have undiagnosed ADD if the recent tab got you to read items.
The Difficulty is fine the dlc just isnt fun to me
Vibes man salute.
I agree with most of your criticism and praise of bosses! Largely felt the same way. Gaius wasn't as easy for me as it sounds like he was for you, but I didn't struggle against him as bad as the community made me think I would lol.
Idk if you would do this sort of thing, but how would you rank the bosses from a fun and/or design perspective?
Btw if didn't know loopine, you can use raptors of mist to dodge the big aoe laser of radhan
The only good critique of the game on Youtube
I think I would give SOTE a 7.5/10. Didn't really enjoy it.
Six hits?!?!?!
I die in two by almost every single enemy!!!💀
First off (before yall attack me lmfao) I do love Elden ring base game and love it's gameplay, lore, world etc but I feel the DLC dropped the ball story-wise here. I don't think the majority of people are criticising the gameplay, boss design or world, but how the story concluded. they don't like the loose ends and the disconnect from the base game. And Promised Consort Radahn felt like it was fanservice. It's not that the game is bad, it's that it could have been so so much better. It feels rushed in some things, when it need not have been.
Love your soundtrack video, would 100% be down for a follow up video talking about other From Soft games and now including Shadow of the Erdtree in the conversation as well
Okay i seriously doubt you even played this DLC because no way you pronounced Miquella that way. The game tells you multiple times how its pronounced
This dlc isn't perfect and has its fair share of criticism, but I genuinely believe a decent chunk of people who hate it, hate it bc the game wants them to think critically for themselves for a moment
My biggest critique is tbh the story and lore of the DLC
This DLC has a lot of stuff especially lore stuff that feels like it was unjustly cut, to the point I seriously wonder why they actually did cut it, because I genuinely don’t find any actual reasons why they should have cut it. Or not even mention it, when it is pretty much important stuff that should have appeared and been answered. But it feels like they totally forgot about some shit, that the DLC should have straight up answered.
For example, the Euphoria weapon which originally was the Twinblade of Abundance and Decay, in its old description literally mentions that it was imbued with the power of the Runes of Decay and Abundance. It was literally ment to, represent Malenia and Miquella. And it most likely, was probably a weapon of Miquella himself.
Why would they, remove something like that? It makes no sense especially in regards to the fact that Malenia lore, already was pretty neglected in the DLC even tho the main Antagonist is literally her TWIN BROTHER who abandoned her. Like bruh she, got fumbled hard imo.
Or the fact that characters like, Romina and Rellana have gotten NO cutscene when they totally should have. They very clearly ARE characters who had, enough of a presence to get one. Never mind the fact that they both, even have cut dialogue.
Another thing, I genuinely like Messmer as a character but is it just me who thinks he weirdly, does not contribute much to the Miquella plotline? Considering he literally is the only other Demigod, in the DLC with a strong presence? Like no reference to the fact, that his brother demigod just wanders into his realm and attempts to do the same thing Marika did?
Btw he does have a line of dialogue that was cut where he says that "Miquella spoke of thee." Which again, why was this cut? It was such a small piece of dialogue, but could have contributed so much. To connecting Messmer, to the actual main story of the DLC all he served as was just as Marika lore exposition and a cool fight essentially. He could have been this DLC’s Margit/Morgott but no he wasn’t sadly.
When it comes to the lore I feel like the DLC is too disconnected, especially from the main game. Some things I genuinely think, should have gotten answers and not be left up to speculation.
Why did Miquella just abandon Malenia, What’s the deal with all the Miquella X Godwyn main game lore stuff like that. What about Melina and never mind the Gloam Eyed Queen like that was totally just forgotten and fumbled to the point its kinda frustrating. Especially since the only "Melina Lore." We even got was that she is one of Radagon and Marikas children and that’s it, just through a literal butterfly item description. Like Meli gets so robbed from having a nice role in the DLC, considering her apparent connection to Messmer and her Mother Marika. As well as no answer as to her apparent, connection to the Gloam Eyed Queen like ugh it’s frustrating.
Also another issue is, why did they decide to have this DLC take place before ascending, to the throne as Elden Lord? It again brings up the issue, that the main game and DLC barely affect each other. We get no special endings like an Age of Compassion or anything, like that anyway.
They totally could have made this play AFTER ascension to the Elden Lord and it STILL, could have worked for the most part.
A general issue I felt strongly, they teased and made too much lore stuff in the main game, that hinted at Something else than what they seemed to actually plan.
Or in other words, we were given many tips telling us 'A' was the answer when it was actually 'B'. But the reality is B still kinda doesn’t make sense, as an answer, cause they just didn’t elaborate well.
Feels overall very inconsistent and makes it weirdly, confusing when it doesn’t actually need to be. Don’t get me wrong I love the lore and game still, but it does feel unsatisfying to have such a lore heavy game and barely answer most of the genuinely kinda important questions.
Edit: I might add, I don’t think this "emptiness." In certain lore would have been as bad had it been atleast brought up, not just straight up answered that’s the other Issue some of it isn’t even brought up, like as if these are non existent not even any cutscene or dialogue or even item description or lore marker. And imo it doesn’t work for the whole Miyazaki "esoteric lore." Aspect that he so loves.
It worked for the Main Game, but for this DLC it felt completely over done it was too cryptic for no reason. But hey It is what it is, and again it’s just my personal critique.
To summarize:
The biggest issue this DLC has is that the story of this DLC, feels like it doesn’t affect the Main game at all. Like it literally doesn’t add much besides answer what the deal with Miquella is, make Marikas horrendous behavior slightly more understandable and make Mohg not as evil of a guy as he was claimed to be and also confirm that the fingers were basically lying.
I think a follow up for your music video would be great. After revisiting all the other souls game soundtracks, I think it really boils down to ER and Bloodborne. Would be sick to see these both put against each other.
Imo PCR theme > Ludwigs theme.
I don’t understand the “its too anime” statement but i hear it everywhere. Why cant weapon arts or spells be flashy/colorful? Why is the tarnished not allowed to pull of these crazy maneuvers in combat? I think it would be really lame if every move or spell or weapon was the same. Grounded, not something untraditional to see with a sword or magic. Why does everything have to be dark and depressing and bland qwq
22:55 damn was Manus actually controversial when the ds1 dlc dropped?
I personally preferred placidusax over bayle, & if you ever watch videos of bosses fighting each other, Placidusax wins by the smallest amount only because of Placidusax’s ruin
My criticisms are as stands way too much more boring empty open world and nothing new was added to the multi-player (co op or pvp) other then that it was pretty neat.
Critique=everything is better 😂
of course this mf vapes
Dude are you seriosly defending the finger ruins? You do know people didint mean that when we said less pointless dungeons. Not to mention some dungeons dont have bosses or have repeat bosses so its not like they improved them that much.
Also you said shaded woods didint bother you because you like more streamline areas rather than openworld but whoudnt that be a problem to you then? Its empty!
Biggest elden ring jerker keeps jerking on elden ring and excusing mechanically awful bosses like radahn
