We all have our own personal appeals, those moments we can feel ourselves being pandered to and don't mind it. Every overly intricate and cool looking giant robot in any video game is automatically catching my eye, OH IT HAS BIG GREEN ENERGY EXHAUSTS okay this big giant robot game is on my radar.
"A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into." ~ Some guy
Despite having said that, I love boats. I'm very disinterested in cars and planes. Trains are a bit fun.
But, stumbling upon a rental boat store, glancing over at my wife and getting the nod to go ahead with it, has led me off on many life-defining adventures.
Yeah I kinda suspected it before, but I’m 99% sure Yahtzee listens to Alestorm.
has yahtzee ever seen the horatio hornblower tv films with ioan gruffudd?
…and really bad eggs…
I wonder if another bonus for why the ocean is better then space is because it's relatable. Nearly everyone knows what it is like to swim in large bodies of water (bet it an ocean or a pool). Therefore you can more instinctively understand and relate to it better. Very few people understand and can relate to floating in space.
I have a feeling Yahtzee has a somewhat romanticized view of sailing in age of sail – homo-erotic fantasies notwithstanding. Being a sailor was an incredibly dangerous profession, and all of the major trading companies suffered from near-permanent manpower shortages. You'd be on a ship about 30 meters long, and chancing it on the oceans, where the waves can easily reach over the decks, there was no warning if you were about to sail into bad weather until it already hit you. You could run into pirates or warships from unfriendly nations at any point, because relatively speaking, we are living in one of the most peaceful eras of all time, things used to be worse. Assuming that doesn't happen, every time the ship changes course, you'd have to climb a mast – unsecured, 20 meters up over a wooden deck, one misstep means almost certain death. And if that doesn't happen, there's always the threat of disease, scurvy, malaria, infections, name it, because there was no medicine. Oh, and on the year and a half roundtrip from London to Mumbai and back, you'd be eating nothing but unrefridgerated food, mostly heavily salted to ward off mold, and very little in the way of greens. The average life expectancy for a sailor was not high.
I'm shocked this video wasn't just a big lead up to "Call me Ishmael."
Whoever used Subnautica: Below Zero for the video icon (instead of the real Subnautica) needs to be fired. And flogged. And fed to a ghost leviathan.
Got confused for a minute because here in Britain a ‘bluey’ is how people of a certain age used to refer to VHS porn..
“It’s gorgeous in a way only really intimidatingly huge things can be.”
Thanks for writing my wedding vows!
sublime… is the word you were looking for
That atheist argument from the ocean is actually really good.
Yahtzee have you played Iron Lung? Short little horror game but very effective.
Yahtzee likes watersports
I have the same type of love but for snow settings in games and oddly enough my best friend’s favorite setting for a game is the desert
Is this a reupload? I feel I’ve seen it before.
Yahtzee, you would probably REALLY like playing Barotrauma- specifically, with friends. Don’t play it solo, the bots can’t do Jack.
His name is Yahtzee, Yaht coming from Yacht and zee being the dutch word for sea. It shouldn't really surprise us that he likes the sea and boats when he literally named himself after it.
How the hell has Yahtzee not played Sunless Seas/Skies?
So when's he playing Sunless sea/skies then? British men dying in cosmic horror storms, what more could you ask for?
I just picked up spritfarer to play on my steam deck, it’s a damn good game.
Yahtzee probably laments not being birthed in Norfolk and his lack of webbed toes and gills.
I work in a metalworking factory on a gun drill, and I can tell you from personal experience that having a giant, complicated machine put in front of you and actually understanding how to operate it properly is absolutely an engaging form of satisfaction I wish games explored more.
