  1. People often comment (and rightly so) about how good Jimmy Stewart is in this film, but I think the boy who played young George Bailey really did a fantastic job too. The scene where he saves the pharmacist from sending out the poison pills is heart wrenching, shows such bravery and is so well acted it gets me every time.

  2. 9:06 Strike-anywhere matches. They basically take the stuff that's normally on the box stripe and put it on the tip of the match. They're not really popular anymore due to safety but you can still find them at hardware stores or Walmart. The normal kind you see are called safety matches.

  3. 15:47 A run at the bank is when everybody tries to take out their money at once. This isn't really a problem these days since almost every bank is insured by the government, you'll see they say "FDIC Insured".

  4. It's ok to cry. I've been watching this movie for 40 years and tear up every time I see it…heck, I watched it last night on Christmas Eve and a few reactions today on Christmas and still tear up each time…a timeless classic of someone who sacrificed and gave up his whole life for others and then when he was down and out those people returned the favor to him…who couldn't get teary eyed about that. And, a beautiful wife who was always by his side no matter what and always helped him.

  5. Loved seeing how much you related to this film. If you want to do another old movie sometime, The Wizard of Oz is a classic that still holds up just as good as this.

  6. Seeing you cry tears of joy at the movie’s conclusion warms my heart so very much and makes me wish so very badly to give you a big hug right now! You have a very big heart my dear! Never ever let world take that away from you! God bless you my dear and a very Merry Christmas! And a happy new year! 🎄 ✝️ 🎅
    CHRISTMAS HUGS!!!!! 🤗

  7. James Stewart was a pilot trainer who flew a B-24 Bomber as a squadron leader for 20 combat missions during World War II. He had recently got back from service in the Army Air Corps when he made this movie.

  8. What you said towards the end was very touching and your passion for wanting to help people really was shining through you. In a time when it seems most people are take, take, take you want to give.
    You are good people Kemi.

  9. Matches were made different back then, so that you could strike them against any relatively hard surface. Now most matches are what are called "safety matches" because they are designed to light against the side of the box only. You can still find the old ones sold as "stike-anywhere" matches, but they are uncommon.

  10. Regarding the match question, you’ll need to buy anywhere strike wooden kitchen matches (if they still make them). 100 odd years ago when I took “survival” in high school I learned how to make a survival kit and to include a bunch of those matches dipped in candle wax to make them water proof! They worked great! Your reactions are awesome!

  11. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the run on the back was around the time of the stock market crash of 1929, which preceded the Great Depression. People rushed to their banks to pull out all their money.

  12. RANDOM INFO Back in the 80s "Strike Anywhere" matches🔥 were phased out for "Safety Matches" which can only be lit on special surfaces. Rare incidences of random ignition were a safety concern and a fire hazard. for example a box of "Strike Anywhere" matches falling from the shelf in a grocery store could possibly ignite upon impact.🔥

  13. Matches in the old days had the striking powder mixed in with the flammable part on the end of the match and you could strike the match on any surface and it would light. They had to change the design because the matches were igniting in peoples pockets and when bumped around when being transported. A run on a bank is when the people panic and think they are going to loose there money and they all storm the bank trying to withdraw there money. I love that in this film when George cesses to exist the snow stops and when he comes back it starts snowing again interesting affect. This is the first film James Stuart did after he came back after the war. He was a pilot in a B17 bomber and did 20 missions. The expected survival rate was 10 missions. When this film was made he was still suffering from war fatigue not that you would know it he did an amazing job.

  14. Just had to watch the ending again. You are so right. You have to do more. I have to do more. Everyone has to do more. If even a small percentage of us did just a little more so many problems could possibly be solved. As you said you never know how a kindness is going to come back to you. That would be nice but I would rather any kindness I do be past along to someone other then me. "All you can take with you is that what you have given away"! Watched this movie over and over during my life. Never noticed that before. Thank you and bless you for pointing it out to me!

  15. It's amazing that you were wearing that shirt: "Kindness is the new currency". That speaks so well to the theme of the movie. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. I cried right along with you.
