My Girlfriend BLEW UP At Me When I Called Out Her Weird Clingy Attachment To My Dad r/Relationships

Relationship Reddit Stories, OP and his girlfriend, Shay, are visiting his hometown to introduce her to his family, but he becomes uncomfortable with her behaviour towards his dad. Shay has avoided some group activities, like horseback riding, opting to spend time with his dad instead and even baked his favourite cupcakes for a family dinner. This made him feel like she was being too clingy. After confronting her and making a joke about “daddy issues,” she got upset, accusing him of not making her feel welcome and now he is questioning whether he was in the wrong or not.

  1. Story 1: While it was an AH move to tell the gf to reel in her daddy issues, I do find it uncomfortable how the gf and OP’s dad were alone so much. OP might be saying things in a rather biased manner, but it is rather strange that those two were alone together so much. I think OP is a little insecure but it’s also not really appropriate (at least from my pov) to be alone for hours on end with your potential father in law as a woman. Maybe they were just bonding and OP isn’t trusting her or his father enough, but I (as a woman) wouldn’t want to be alone with my partner’s father alone if this is the first time I am physically meeting him. Probably not the take many would agree with, but the overall picture it paints isn’t necessarily in a good light for the dad or gf.

  2. Story 1: A commenter told him to fix his insecurity issues before she breaks up with him. I knew it was already too late and she was indeed going to break up with him.
Also, the way he tried to act like he learned his lesson based on everyone telling him he was the AH, then proceeds to say he didn't MAKE A BIG DEAL out of the fact that his father had been at the airBNB for 2 hours before he got there…🤦🏾‍♀️ DUDE!! The fact that he even did the math/research is PROOF that he did not in fact learn his lesson! The lesson he learned was "keep my feelings/reactions to myself", when the lesson he should have learned was "your feelings/reaction was ridiculous/wrong/misguided!" You shouldn't be getting "daddy issues" from your girlfriend simply being nice to/close with your father. And then the way he tried to minimize what he did by saying he JOKINGLY brought up daddy issues…I'm glad the commenters saw right through him!

  3. The shawl story: I would say OP is the AH. It's her family and it absolutely sucks but she made it for them. I feel he should have asked her first before grabbing it because it's her present

  4. Story 2: when the 1st update started I wanted a wellness check. No way OP wrote that without being forced to. Personally I think his bf wrote it after beating OP. When an OP’s tone shifts that much it’s a huge red flag

  5. Turpentine is an old remedy that poor people used. Turpentine is an extract of pine resin. There are doctors that recommended it but one moved to Panama. It is an anti parasitic.

  6. The woman who is the live-in maid for her husband and in-laws: OP is the a-hole for doing it all. If I’m asleep and ANYONE wakes me up to cook dinner or do anything else, my reaction would make them afraid to ever wake me again.

  8. Yes I can believe the wife knew, and STILL supported the a$$hole abuser. As a survivor all I can say is this is how GENERATIONS of abuse are allowed. As to not make the "Family" look bad. 🤬
Op needs to get a divorce NOW!

  9. The OP from the turpentine story was an idiot. When the hospital didn't test his kids (I doubt that, but OK) OP should've gone to his pediatrician to have them examined & tested.

My mental image of OP is him in a burning building with his kids in danger while OP stands there wringing his hands and asking Reddit what to do.

"My mom is a nurse, looked at the kids & said they were fine." Those kids aren't safe with either parent.

  10. E1 2nd story, What the absolute hell? So this guy and his brother have known OP since he was 10 or so. Meaning they were 25 & 21. So he groomed him from a very young age I'm guessing and mentally abused him into believing his body didn't belong to himself but this creep & his brother? Don't even get me started on the "punishment" thing, I can't tell if that's code for sexual assault or physical abuse, but either way, it is absolutely horrible. That guy & his brother should be put in prison for their crimes.

  11. E1, 3rd Story: It is absolutely a deal breaker, If she excuses his behavior "cause he was in a bad place in life." Think about this, what makes OP think she wouldn't let this bastard touch their shared children cause he was having a "tough time" in life? Continuing to stay with someone who excuses pedophilia make you a horrible person along with that family. Wow, I can't believe OP wasn't out the door the moment she let that stupid shit leave her mouth.

  12. Story 2 : Not saying that this can't be true but…I have run across the last/last two updates on two other Reddit accounts. The part where the OP does a 180, apologizes and accepts the blame for overreacting is from the post of a teen having problems with parents. The confontation that ends in the OP being hospitalized is from an abused wife post…🤔

  13. The first OP learned absolutely nothing and dug his heels in. Dude probably thinks his gf is sleeping with his dad when his dad is trying to be welcoming and his gf is probably in the process of breaking up with him.

  14. Kids and turpentine story
Medical assistance , Attorney , Cps, police, whatever
This is no matter you talk about with the nutjob thats doing it …

You need to check the kids for proof (hospital check up, bodily and psychologically)
And then on with an attorney, cps and police

  15. Why a person who is childfree date a man with children?

I never understood that! Yes he is the asshole putting everything on her, but she decided to date a parent, specially an absent parent, what did she think would happen if the mom died? It was obvious that one day someone would asks her to step up even if the mom didn't die!

Most of my childfree friends avoided parents while dating, most of them married childfree people and even one of my friends only dated childless men who had a vasectomy (from where I am from is easier for a woman to go to the Moon than beind sterelized while men always get a yes for a vasectomy)!

So, if you are childfree, don't date parents, even absent parents!

From the start you knew where this was going. Cousin was always a idiot, he just thought pointing at OP would work.

Cousin managed to alienate Mary, to her own benefit…

Holy crap, was too high from schadenfreude to remember that karma doesn't stop domestic violence. OP isn't to blame for this.

There is family unaliving possibility, that is hopefully taken into consideration.

  17. Man that 3rd story with the girl getting parentified again. Like holy shit everyone in that story is a massive victim. The world can be a cruel place, but then it hits you with a childs "can you still be my best friend?" and you remember why we slog through all this shit.
