You keyed onto the evangelical/religious feeling immediately. The One Piece community could definitely be described as a cult and first time I heard this I thought it fit better as a religious anthem than an anime opening. A lot of the distorted/techno sounds is because the current arc is a futuristic island so I think that was their way to incorporate some electronic elements. The lead singer/band did the first ever one piece opening so he’s highly beloved and the ensemble is always on point
Where is opening 25?
This opening caught me by surprise honestly, it was such a good mix of some newer anime sounds but still had that old One Piece vibe. Loved it!

The ending song, Dear Sunrise by Maki Otsuki, is also super good
Interesting to point out, this opening was composed by Kohei Tanaka, who is also the composer for the anime background OST. He rarely works on the openings, be he also composed the very first one, with Hiroshi Kitadani as the singer as well. It's a 25 year long collaboration between those two, and they're just as good as they were in 1999, if not better. I'd love to hear your take on We Are!

I prefere the previous opening way more, which is number 25 and also made by Magumi. Its just much more harmonic. This one is just feels cramped, like everything has to happen at once. A note salad. It's funny because I love chaotic jazz and huge orchestral compositions.
Dude this opening is so fucking good. They throw so many fakes at you, to they put in some nods to other ost’s etc. god it’s so fucking good. Not only that, this ost is signifiying that the crew is finally reaching the end 😢 in the openining cinematic it shows all of luffy’s costumes he wore throughout the years and it shows the crew nearing laugh tale (the final island) where the one piece is. I started this anime last year and it took me 7 months to catch up to wano, but man it’s been a crazy journey.

Please never apologise for making a 3 minute song into an 18 minute video. People should understand that you channel is for music breakdowns and not reactions and that is ehy we watch you. As a music noob and a non native english speaker I especially appreaciate when you explain more about the vocabulary so I can follow your commentary more easily because that's what this is all about anyway!
I remember I watched episode 1089 and I saw the intro change and I legit paused and went "new opening!!! YES" and while listening to it I couldnt help but like move. This song is literally one of the best songs I've heard. I don't even know what he's saying, but the song is SO GOOD. And if you don't care about spoilers or you're already caught up, go watch the actual intro, the animation is so good
edit: also if you're gonna watch and you're fine with spoilers but not like super bad spoilers, still don't watch it. There is a SURPRISING amount of spoilers. If you wanna "watch" a spoiler free version, search up "one piece intro 26 without spoilers" you'll get to see maybe 15 seconds of the whole thing lol

Love the choir part of this song. I enjoy your break downs of everything going on. Gets me to listen to parts of the song I may not have noticed before and lets me appreciate it more. We definitely need to get more of your reactions to OP songs.
