MTA Q110 via Hillside Ave Bus Ride: New Flyer XD60 5388 from 179 Street (F) Station to Belmont Park

Taken on 6/8/23.

Video of 2016 New Flyer XD60 5388 operating on the part time Q110 branch from Jamaica – 179 Street (F) station to Belmont Park (UBS Arena), via Hillside, Jamaica, and Hempstead Avenues. The Q110 mainly uses standard buses, so the route is regularly assigned the Orion VII NG Hybrid fleet from Baisley Park Depot. During rush hours, some trips operate with articulated buses (in this case, the XD60 fleet), and appearances during off-peak periods are possible but less common.

Officially, service into Belmont Park on the Q110 officially operates during event days only, although Q2 service terminates there 24/7. All other times, service begins/originates at Hempstead Ave & 225th Street. The route briefly enters Nassau County on its way into Belmont Park (most of the route to the immediate east of the Cross Island Parkway is in Nassau).

As part of the Queens bus redesign, the Q110 is currently proposed to be eliminated and replaced by several routes. The main route along Jamaica Avenue is proposed to be served by a new Q57 route, connecting the (E) at Jamaica Center and the LIRR at Jamaica station, but it would not head up to the (F) on Hillside Avenue. The portion of Hempstead Avenue would be replaced by the Q82, which would run mainly along Hillside Avenue and connect to the (F), via 212th Street/212th Place. This section would lose all (E) train connections. The plan is not finalized, and may change. A near-finalized draft of the proposed Queens bus network is set to be released by Labor Day.

This was taken during the time period where polluted air from the wildfires up in Canada were blowing through the NYC region. As a result, the sky can be seen as slightly orange at times, and the sun is bright red. The worst part of the pollution would occur the following day, when the sky turned dark orange and the air smelled of smoke.
