Money, Money, Money, Must Be Funny | Big Ambitions (RPG Business Sim – Early Access)

Big Ambitions is a business management game that lives up to the name! We play as a bold entrepreneur in New York City and we can take on any business we like! Cafe, florist, clothing shop, they’re all up for grabs!

We have to buy the buildings, decide what shop they’re going to become, buy and place all the furniture, stock the shelves and hire the staff.

However it’s not all about the business side of things because it’s also part life simulator, so we have to make sure that our character sleeps, eats and maintains their happiness. Alongside this we get to rent or buy our own homes and decorate them how we’d like!

As often seems to happen we’re helped on our way by a kindly Uncle, this time Uncle Ken, who helps us get started with a little bit of cash and some contacts to get us an apartment.

We take on a part time job but then soon enough we’ve got enough cash to open up our first little business and, when we’re not being run over by traffic, we scamper around New York making a little bit of money for ourselves!

NOTE: This is the Early Access version of the game.

Your bank balance is tiny, but your ambitions are big.

With a little help from your uncle, you get an apartment and your first job. But then it’s up to you to achieve success and take over New York City any way you like.

Slowly build multiple small businesses, grow them into huge corporations, or carve your own unique path – the possibilities are limitless in this vast business sandbox. You’ve never played anything like this!

Go from a small apartment and public transport to luxury suites, fast cars and designer furniture. Put your money into investment funds and real estate. Succeed, fail, rebuild. But remember to take care of yourself, sleep and stay happy on your rise to the top.

Do you have what it takes to build your own empire?

Go from nothing to the most prominent tycoon in New York. Start a business, work smart, make it thrive and enjoy your life. How do you want to be successful? How far can you push it? How long can you make it last?

Start your own gift shop, supermarket, coffee shop, law firm, clothing store, liquor store, florist, and more. You decide what success is – whether it’s a single shop, a chain of fast-food restaurants, a huge corporation, or making millions developing websites from a basement.

Take out a loan, rent a building, design the logo, renovate the store, get stock, manage your money, hire staff, and build your infrastructure. Soon, you may have to start importing products from the harbour and distributing them through a network of warehouses.

A bigger business means managers. Hire HR Managers, Logistics Managers, and Purchasing Agents. They all need desks and computers, so you’ll need a fancy headquarters.

Need a delivery truck? Travel to a dealer and buy one. Need food? Go to a supermarket, but make sure you have a refrigerator at home. Big Ambitions is a life sim where your character has to physically interact with the world to survive and succeed.

Enter any building in New York and buy it. Go from a small apartment to a dream penthouse in midtown, a luxurious townhouse in Hell’s Kitchen, or a series of skyscrapers. Fill each with furniture that suits your style and standing. Invest your hard-earned cash in real estate to grow your empire. Take over the city piece by piece.

Spend your wealth however you wish. Buy a big SUV, a speedy sports car, or the new luxurious Mersaidi S500. Maybe risk it all at the casinos or put your money into investment funds and reap the rewards.

As you progress, you always need to ensure you get enough sleep and stay healthy and happy. Enjoy the journey, for as you grow older, you’ll discover that money can’t buy you time… or can it?

  1. This seems like it will be a decent game once it's finished. I'm not fond of the running back and forth part, but it does give you a feel for the area you're in. At any rate, if you decide to play this one again in future, I'll be here to watch.
If you take the car and park it, like you did, you need to also remember your uncle's advice about parking tickets. I'm not sure how long you're allowed to park in that spot. Also… where I live (and I know nothing about New York), if you parked backwards like that, you'd not only be fined, you'd also be towed. It's illegal here.
I think eventually you get to order things and they get delivered to your store, rather than you having to hire a delivery person to go get things for you.
I'd like to see the various pop-up menus able to be closed even if you're doing something from them… so they're not in the way.

  2. Penge,

Seeing you negotiate a pedestrian's life in NYC brought back memories of Dustin Hoffman in "Midnight Cowboy". "I'm walkin' here!" Yes, crossing a street in the middle of the block is called Jaywalking. It is a misdemeanor, rather like a parking ticket but not nearly as stringently enforced.

I suspect the problem with the consumption of frozen food may have been due to the fact that poor Betty (who appeared a bit more portly in this incarnation) had nothing with which to THAW said frozen food. I mean couldn't she at least acquired a cheap microwave? On the other hand (this is me pretending to speak like an economist) the Devs have relieved you of the tedium of personal hygiene and personal waste disposal – very much unlike the Sims franchise. I noticed that you elected to mop the floor during business hours, rather than save that activity for the evening hours. Of course, mopping while Nifty Gifty is closed would result in a depletion of time that could otherwise have been spent sleeping…

It will be interesting to see if you return to this game at any time in the future.

  3. Really enjoyed the video. You're right on your thoughts – as you play more you can hire staff, get vans, even import direct from the manufacturer so you don't have to go to a wholesaler.
