Miles wasn't messing around. Some of our artistic heroes are like that. They come to earth not to encourage us but just to make beautiful music. When we have the rare opportunity to communicate with them and seek knowledge, we have to make sure we are really not seeking encouragement or affirmation because often they're no good for the latter. But if have a think skin and humility and a sincere work ethic, they can give us pearls of wisdom.
Everyone is saying Miles was mean to the kid (he wasn't); but the host snubbed Miles when he told the kid to play it in Eb. Miles wanted him to play it in Eb right then and there, but the host cut him off and went to another kid. That was wrong. I was born and raised in Alton, Illinois. I'm very familiar with how Miles thinks. He wanted the kid to play in Eb so he could say, "See, that sounds better, that sounds cool." Miles was a tough teacher because he demanded perfection. Tear them down, build them up. Just like in boot camp. But that stupid host just cut him off and the kid missed out on the lesson of a lifetime.
How old was Miles when he started, is dismissed as an irrelevance. Instead, Miles answered the question the kid should have asked. Do you have any advice to help me develop? Practice, try that song again in Eb.
You can’t ask a personality type like Miles Davis what they think and expect “good job “ if you didn’t merit it. He did give the kid good overall advice and a suggestion on how to make it better.
Yes, kudos to Mr. Davis for telling the truth not kissing butt, like today, just be honest, MD took playing seriously which you want in someone who's music your buying.
Him sitting there w sunglasses, indoors………+ his outfit. Hmmm…… it looks like too much Ego. I love Honesty. But, being a Jerk is different. It was quite uncomfortable in front of all those people…. It would be something to say on the side. It was a bit rude and Narcissistic. Even the Host was uncomfortable.

All yall compensating, lol. That directness made him him. Yall trying to “fix” him being him – good luck. Lolol
Miles didn't play. Miles response would have been a lot more stern if the young man was his student.
I just love people that don´t bullshit. I know they aren´t always the nicest people, but our society need these rebels.
Maybe it wasn't the best idea to put a well known angry and complicated man to give advice to kids in TV. He tried his best tho.
I don’t think was harsh at all lol and wouldn’t have framed it as such.
The young man didn't seem to know what key he played in

They're trying to have a deep inspiring conversation with a man who just smoked crack cocaine in the dressing room.

I wish someone had said something similar to me.
Smoke another Miles….
Wonder if hes talking about "So What" which follows a key of d then switches to Eb
The kids was playing a semitone off key according to Miles .. if true then miles feedback was essential
