MID-WEEK 180 – Death of the Fiesta – Epic Electric Skoda

Which car manufacturer will not survive the move to all electric ?

Plenty of action from last weekends US Grand Prix. Should Max have had is Quali time delated for track limits like Zhou Guanyu ?

Plenty of online discussion this week about the imminent end of the Ford Fiesta after 46 years and 8 generations. My first car was a Fiesta so I’ve always had a soft spot for them. It will be sad to see the name removed from the Ford line up.

This week also saw details of a hot Skoda Enyak, the iV VRs. A dual motor 299PS performance EV that looks great, especially in the luminous green paint job !

  1. As much as I love a vRS, £50K is wayyyy too much!! You'd have thought Ford would have gone all electric with the Fiesta, but there we go. Gutted about the meet and great as I'm working on that day!!

  2. 31 reactions. Getting better but a long way to the Mag 7!😂 Toyota is one of the most flexible manufacturers and I'm sure that although they don't believe in EV's for the entire world they will make and sell a lot of them in the near future.

  3. Being a ford lover & an even bigger mondeo lover I was absolutely gutted when they pulled the plug on the mondeo
    & Now the fiesta……
If I'm right in thinking that the fiesta is the last car or name at least from the 80s etc
Apart from the mustang but that's hardly British
The fiesta was a car that that was cheap & reliable & had the looks too
I do however think ford May well regret this decision
I mean if you want to make an electric car why would you not use a car that most people love & recognize
The fiesta name has been good enough for 40 years
Their decision just doesn't make sense
    R.I.P FORD FIESTA 😢😢😢

  4. Shame about the Fiesta going, does anyone think Ford may bring back iconic names from the past like the Escort, Capri etc? A bit of nostalgia tugging marketing?

  5. I feel pretty uneasy about future of motoring.. How long until petrol and diesel cars are literally banned? I understand why we’re doing and ultimately the the world 🌍 is most important.. I just hope the clever people amongst us develop synthetic fuel that can directly replace current fossil fuels and ICE remains (both polar and engine)

  6. Very sad news about Fords iconic hot hatches , as far as I’m concerned they are the best cars in the lineup . The announcement was made in Australia a few months ago as both cars disappeared from the order books and the Ford Australia website ,with Ford only filling existing orders for Fiesta and closing the door on Focus ST. Fiesta ST , best driver’s car this side of a Civic Type R. Also Ford Australia after sales is one of the worst in the business down here. All they sell now are basically Mustang and Ranger/Raptor 👎. RIP Fiesta ST you will be sorely missed. One of the best hot hatches of all time.😢

  7. My goodness you get around!! You must be channelling SHMEE! Cancelling the Fiesta segment is a strange decision…yes the existing car is too old now to upgrade but why drop a car that does what 90% of real life driving is all about…BMW churns out ever more ridiculously overpowered cars for super high earners but has chopped ⎌the i3….many other small cars are not being replaced. I had two new Fiestas…a 1981 1.1L Sandpiper and then a 1982 XR2…one of the early originals built in December 1981. I wish I had KEU 565X now but it was scrapped by the next owner in 1993. US GP…who won as I have not seen a word about it! Peter…look after that voice and come home safe! 😀😀😀😀Richard

  8. Great timing for me as I’ve just brought a mk6 fiesta st150 mainly as I was getting bored with modern cars and all their driving aids and filters. Ford should have invested in a new electric fiesta as it’s an iconic model in their line up. Looking forward to the Thruxton meet!! 🚙🚙👍

  9. Great work as normal PP…. Sorry to be repetitious but take the badges off the Skoda and it could be Anything…. Where have all the free thinkers gone… The design people that don`t follow the crowd…. :-((

  10. Hi Sir Pete! Glad to see ya doing okay with your day job trip. There’s a rumor here in the USA of cupra coming to the states. I hope that come true. I think overall sir Pete that if the car companies can’t get a good truck ev that affordable and on par with gas and diesel type mileage, no matter the temperature of the season or what your towing that ev won’t truly get the traction in the USA that’s hoped for.

  11. Following Ford’s decision to axe both the Fiesta and Focus you have to question whether they will be one of the casualties of the move from ICE vehicles to EV’s. It is not easy to move up market or even expect your customers to pay substantially more for your products when you have always been an accessible value brand. As Ford now seem to have quite a large collaboration programme with VW how long will it be that Ford cars in Europe will become another VW brand – perhaps unique to the UK market like Vauxhall where it still has some vestige of customer (and fleet) loyalty.

  12. I think Ford are wrong in dropping all the models we have known for many, many years but what do I know – I still wish they had kept the Capri, Probe and Cougar going 😂 The price of all new EV’s are all out of my reach so the remainder of my driving life will very likely be in more traditional ICE cars – which is not a bad thing in my book. You’re looking a bit tired Ped, hope you’re ok and not doing too much?

  13. Perth, Western Australia. With options to be fitted. Being in Australia where even a cold winters day for me would be 12c. Cooled seats.
Many, many cars available here come with heated seats as std. I would only need those for around 20-30 days a year, MAX. Where cooled seats would easily be 4-5 months.
Where you are now Sri Lanka, I don't think you would be putting on heated seats anytime soon.. My next car could possibly be the Polestar 2. Heated seats std. But to get cooled seat, I need to fork out $6000 as they only come with the Napa Leather option.
Alonso's 30secs penalty is wrong, when you compare George only got 5secs for taking Sainz completely out of the race

  14. I like ford hatchback's, it will be a sad day when there will be no more fiesta's or focus's. My first car was a two door Ford hatchback. I think Subaru might struggle with a change to electricification, they might have to keep a boxer engined car in their line-up, so as to not lose any Subie fan's/enthusiasts.

  15. Bad move by Ford. Pricing the everyday consumer out of their cars. Ford will try to sell its cars as a premium product but they will find people won't pay too much for a Ford

  17. Much to discuss in this episode PP. The death of the Fiesta, how sad. The great thing about Fiestas and Fords in general was the availability and cost of spare parts. Almost every town had a motorist DIY shop. Get your cheap parts fit them yourself job done. Lots of older Fiestas still out there. Which brings me to my next point, EV’s. Most if not all EV’s will have been purchased on some sort of PCP-lease agreement. Three or four year contracts covering say 30 to 40k. Hand back your 4 year old EV, get a new one. Not that far down the road the dealerships will be full of older EV’s. I would not want to buy a 4 year old EV , firstly as the EV ages I would not be able to get spares and fix it myself. Secondly I’m being told battery technology is getting better all the time so why would I want a 4 year old EV with outdated tech ? In answer to your question, I think all manufacturers will suffer as the forecourt’s become full of EV’s nobody wants. I’m 62 and don’t think I will ever have an EV. On a positive note, I’m hoping to make the meet and greet.

  18. Hi PP
I know it's nothing to do with this video, but I have just got a clubman JCW, one of the very last ones before the 2019 plate came out, its on a 2018 year plate, but it has the 304 bhp engine, I checked it out, anyway long story short, it's black and red with cream leather interior, every box ticked as it cost over 43k when new, I picked it up from a garage down south, saying that everyone is south of me, east coast of Scotland… So, I have a bit of a unicorn.. It has the anolog dials, but a touch screen centre system, 19inch wheels with a tiny black rubber slither of tyre.. Upgraded exhaust and active suspension.. I added red stripes and it looks the dogs xxxxx now, you remember I said I had to sell my other JCW due to the trapped nerve in my hip, thankfully the new mini is an automatic… Anyhow…. Keep up the brilliant vids

  19. Loved our holiday in Sri Lanka and the Maldives 20 years ago. There's a mighty impressive Geoffrey Bawa hotel in Kandala – literally built into a cliff face overlooking a Seregeti-like vista. Our stay was absolutely made by the local people who couldn't do enough to help holidaymakers. Truly lovely people.
Can't believe the price of that Skoda – I've got my eye on a MB EQA at a similar price. Out of my range, but I know which of the two I would go for.
    Enjoy your stay in Paradise.
