‘Something went tragically wrong and it’s ended in the loss of a great husband, father and communicator who helped us all.’
Travel expert Simon Calder pays tribute to Michael Mosley, whose body was found four days after he went missing on the Greek island of Symi.

Did he take the jab?
So many febrile and clueless commenters in these threads.
Where has his wife or friends said "he was unwell"? I can't find ANY reference to this "unwell" nonsense from those who were present…simply boneheaded speculation from the gutter MSM then repeated by the sheep until it becomes "the truth".
What I have read is he'd swam at the Agia Nikolios beach (thereby affecting his natural ability to gauge the ambient air temperature due to the cooling effect of the water),then chose to walk a reasonable short (~3km) back to their accomodation. He had an umbrella as sun protection, and possibly water in his small rucksack, he simply underestimated the conditions, became affected by heat stroke as he made his way from the beach and through Pedi, where disorientation set in which caused him to then take the wrong turn which then led him onto the barren, rocky scorching headland in the OPPOSITE direction from which he originally intended to go, then struggled on to the ONLY habitation he saw as he crossed that burning hell, and succumbed to extreme dehydration at the threshold of that refuge.
The complete ignorance of SO many commenters as to the effects of heatstroke makes me wonder how we don't lose HUNDREDS of these ignoarant people every week in the Meditteranean summer.
The only humane not politicalised dr on tv
Rip
When he said to his wife and friends on the beach '' I think i will go for a walk '' didn't they try to convince him not to go. He was 67 years old and it was 40 degrees. Just crazy.
*mewing*😎
If the locals think it's hot, then you know it's hot. Not like the Guy was in his 20's. Really tragic.
I fully understood his desire to go for a good hike, I'd of done the same. It is tragic when someone dies for seemingly no reason though, terrbile! Rest in peace Michael
It doesn't even look like he was wearing proper hard-soled walking shoes that would have made a stony, rocky walk much easier and more efficient.
He had no napsack with extra water, no phone. Walking in 40+ degrees heat was rather foolhardy
Yes he did have water too ,
He wasn't feeling well
He told his wife
It was baking hot
His wife is a GP
Why didn't she consider early stages of heat exhaustion could already have been apparent before he left her?
Why did she let him leave the group on his own knowing that walking in that heat would only likely make things worse?
Didn’t he complain of feeling unwell and left the beach and was on his way home. Maybe, whatever was wrong finally caught up with him and devastatingly he didn’t make it. 😢
fully jabbed?
Very sorry to say this but this was a classic example of the “English idiot abroad”. The Dr took a chain of wrong decisions against common sense in a hostile natural environment, practically a desert. The thing that didn’t help was the “intermittent fasting”. If he had had a good breakfast he would probably be alive now. I’ve learned this in my territorial army training. Water is not enough. You need to eat high energy savory food to survive a trek in the heat.
We flew into temperatures of 46c once….we wanted to fly back once we realised the heat was not being generated from the plane’s engines. It is immoblishing.
no phone small bottle of water and on his own
ya he made more than a mistake it cost him his life
i have been to this fab place all that needs to walk on them hills is bloody goats very sad lovely man from the uk
He was the only one out and he didn’t wander why that was. Rest in peace. 😢
Every soul shall taste death,…its inevitable,…..the leading up to how and when and reasons are just reasons. If your time is up you can go even in your sleep, and if it is t your time you can survive a shark attack. …..its sad but its 1 guaranteed fact that everyone will face…
What risks? It was hardly Everest was it, a short stroll really, lets ignore the blatantly obvious CORROLATION does not imply CAUSATION, imbeciles
Rest in peace Dr 🙏🏻
Did he push the vaccine?
He was pro vax, was this Myocarditis vaccine injury? MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN GO OUT IN THE MIDDAY SUN!! He was old enough to know better. If you are using an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun, you know it is very hot!
Interesting that all his health studies were to protect himself from dying young of Diabetes like his father, you get what you give your attention to “Law of Attraction’. He died too young despite all his precautions!
But his early death is a good career move and will inspire thousands, maybe millions to look into his work and live longer healthier lives, which is a result that would have appealed to him. R.I.P. Namaste 🙏
mobile phone and water
however possibly his phone may have had low battery if he had been at the beach all day.
Who ?????
Doctor died of God Complex. Idiot. Senseless lost. Poor wife and family 🙏
That’s a beautiful island?.I don’t know what you mean for beautiful .The moon looks more appealing
So very sorry to hear this news but you wouldn't find too many Australians hiking around rocky, mountainous terrain in the afternoon in that heat. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke csn easily lead to death, especially with no phone or other tracking device and nowhere to take refuge from the sun. Take particular care in unfamiliar environments and climates, people.
If he was fully aware of the risks I doubt he would have done the hike in the heat
The flags on the cctv footage were flapping around, there was a breeze that might have been deceptive. Also a wrong turn on to the rocky path. A wrong turn. How many of us have made a wrong turn? There may have been a point in which turning back up hill was even more dangerous. The heat coming off those rocks would have been awful. A sad sad accident and the loss of a pioneering man who gave us all so much in his work.
MM: I think Im having a heart attack!
Wife: Just walk a couple of laps around the island.
MM: Its ,100 degrees
Wife: Just take an umbrella…you ll be fine!
The time he headed off…….had they eaten lunch at the beach? Were a few drinkies, a glass or two of vino involved? That never helps in hot temperatures and adds to dehydration. The toxicology and blood works should show if he had alcohol in his system.
Of course it was irresponsible. As a doctor he should have known it was too hot to go hiking there. As they say " Mad dogs and Englishmen out in the midday sun". As an Australian, I understand the most basic safety precaustions when it's very hot. Never go out in the midday sun, stay in the shade, don't exercise until it's cool, and drink plenty of water. He wasn't just unlucky, he made wrong choices, I can't understand it really. It's very sad and I liked him but it was ultimately complete folly!
Broken so many hearts Michael.
I live in Greece. This terrain is easy to camouflage in an the sunlight is so strong that it can very easy blind you when looking for something. Its incredibly easy to get lost in this landscape.
He should of known the risk especially from him being a doctor and knowing so much about the body & mind!!
This man giving poor excuses…
Whole thing sounds "dodgy" why would a person have no mobile, limited water in that big heat??
The heat was 40+ incredibly hot. Possibly heart related through exhaustion?
Why can’t some people just accept that well known or famous people can pass away? It’s not always a conspiracy, in fact it rarely is
I dont believe Media Anymore.
Propoganda Networks are beyond
a Joke.
Regardless of whether he had taken more water, a friend and mobile the best thing would have been to take a bus from Pedi or just not hike in those temperatures. As love and infectious as he was luck never came into it as the days passed the outcome was inevitable.
How can it be said "he was fully aware if all risks" …did you ask him…were you there. This commentator is reading into the story and ad libbing. You do not know how he was feeling nor why he went.
Teaching us , how to die on a Greek island.
At 67 even if he took his phone ,could he operate it ?
Being unacclimatized, walking over hills in that dry extreme heat, even with water and an umbrella, is a recipe for disaster. Not being used to 40 degree heat, it can fry your brain in a matter of minutes. Rest In Peace Michael.
No he WAS NOT. He is not stupid. He loves his family. Nor does he love burning to death. He took calculated controlled risks for medical purposes. He wasn't one of these wild adrenaline —addicted sick in the head, thrill seekers. He took the WRONG TRACK.
Reminds me of all our deaths ahead. For me its hard to listen to these explainations.
RIP Dr. Mosley 🕊️
There's a big difference between a walk and a hike.
Yes, “such a beautiful day” that I couldn’t help but notice that no else was outside in the middle of the day in over +40 degrees C heat!?
=============================
Surely a body lying in the sun for days
==============================
would be smelt from half a mile away?
The smell of death
is unmistakable!
