Gotta say I’m very impressed with the “Thriller 40 Era” so far. Michael’s catalog is one of the most well-preserved in the industry, and it’s nice to see the estate is finally getting first generation masters of his short films and even his demos out to the public. Anthony Marinelli is also doing that mini series with some of the musicians, and I never would’ve guessed the bass line to Thriller was actually an ARP 2600 instead of a Minimoog. Exciting stuff, can’t wait to see more. ✨

Thanks for the Review. I shall be purchasing next week on hard copy if I feel I need to. At present I just don't feel a rush to get it. If it was something special like the Queen Miracle Box set I may of been more eager.

I don’t like the mastering on the bonus songs. Some are mastered at a very loud volume with no dynamics. The original album sounds good though.
If you're quick to notice that the glitter on the Thriller 40 cd cover, it's exactly reminiscent of the shoulders on his Beat It Jacket

Mastered by iTunes is hardly high fidelity.. you should seek out an original cd pressing or vinyl when it comes to MJ. The remastered editions are terrible, I’m not kidding. You will be grateful for discovering these albums all over again, as they were intended to be heard. I’m waiting for the mobile fidelity vinyl, which should be very interesting..
They should have released a new album, titled ''Starlight'' with the same tracks but better quality. The mixing is terrible but I guess it's how Michael left it. Shame ''Hot Street'' & ''Nite Line'' weren't included in this release but apparently Quincy Jones isn't getting on with the Estate. & since he is the producer of the album, you'll probably already know that he didn't want this album released, hence why he didn't hand over those tracks. That's just a guess as to why they weren't included tho. I'm not too sure.
Overall this album is a mess. It's not just the mixing that's bad but they included ''Can't Get Outta the Rain'' & ''Sunset Driver''. ''Can't Get Outta the Rain'' just drags on & tbh I skipped that track halfway through. If I wanna listen to the actual version with the full verse's, I'll listen to the ''You Can't Win'' version from the ''Wiz'' soundtrack, since it's basically around that era & the same track anyway. ''Sunset Driver'' recorded around the ''Off the Wall'' era, again that's a track that shouldn't have featured.
So, I'm mixed with this album. I like it for the unreleased tracks we've heard via the web for years but in CDQ.I dislike it for the mixing but at least it's left the way Michael left it, so I can't & shouldn't really complain lol. Oh, & ''Carousel'' isn't the full version, it's got the beginning & towards the end ad-libs cut. The quality on the Italian King of Pop album is better.

I love the 40th anniversary but I wish they had all the demos to 9 of the tracks they recorded. I don’t understand why they didn’t put Slapstick AKA Hot street on the album. They should of put the longer version of the lady of my life on the album but I still enjoyed it
