  1. Surprised they haven't looked into the different travelers backpacks more. When I played a modpack with it, the Spider Backpack was extremely useful for scaling walls and stuff.

  2. TL;DR: You have the wrong "quartz" biome.

    I'm at least 90% certain it wasn't "the quartz biome" as chat mandela'ed themselves into thinking, but a different biome subtype that seems similar, but was completely different because it was only a frozen lake looking thing that was all white, and foggy. I don't really remember what it was called in that final episode of Dawncraft, I just know it was definitely not this quartz biome you've been exploring.

    Though spawn rates in "the quartz biome" should be better in theory, they're all being taken up by Piglins, and Ziglins, and now whatever else a mod adds that has cross-compat with BYG, or added cross-compat from the development end of the pack design. This is pretty apparent by your lack of Ghast encounters; you'd know if you were in the right spot. 😕
