After their match at WrestleMania 22, Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels continued their rivalry. While HBK wanted to move on and get a shot at the WWE Championship, McMahon had other plans. Vince booked a match where he and his son Shane McMahon would take on Shawn Michaels and God, the match would happen at the Backlash 2006 pay per view, and McMahon would promote the match by visiting the church and even beginning his own religion; McMahonism.

  1. I don’t know if anyone has told Wrestling Bios this yet, but if you listen to friend of the show DDP and Jake the Snake’s podcast “DDP Snake Pit”’s Episode 33: Ric Flair’s Career & Last Match, DDP casually drops a channel reference around the 43 minute mark. He says something along the lines of “We didn’t have the jam…” which means it’s either a legit wrestling term, or Wrestling Bios has created one!

And kudos to Michaels for having a sense of humor about his religion. Laughter is awesome and will attract a lot more people to your cause.

  2. I'm not actually offended, but it's not something I'd do myself let alone if I was the same person who had done the necrophelia inside a real church thing from the Kane and HHH story. If anything I might find Shawn a little more offensive because his character is a Christian wrestler but is about violence rather than sport. I can think of a lot of real life human flawed people in UFC that come of as more sincerely Christian and demonstrate positive characteristics that go beyond just good character.

  3. Even though wrestling is kayfabe.. there's always some realism in the angles they're pushing. Like HBK finding inner peace and Vince not being able to find inner peace is probably totally real from Vince's perspective.

  4. the segment in the church is by a comedy standpoint absolute gold

but it cross a line. the blatant parody of sacred place is offensive to a lot of people
imagine the same thing done with an islamic setup or jewish one and i can lready the shitstorm tsunami on the horizon. if not the occasional madman terroristic attack (charlie hebdo docet)
    it was another television era
doing something like that today would be unthinkable

anyway i laugh to this very day every time i see it

  5. I'm an atheist so making fun of god doesn't bother me. But my main takeaway is this is how extreme Vince needed to get to play a character that is more out of his mind than the actual Vince McMahon. And even then he's not playing a character as different from his real self as even he might imagine.

  6. This so Blasphemous! I’m very surprised that HBK a so called “Christian” would go along with this, but then again there are people that think they can serve 2 masters, when The Bible is very clear that no one can. No wonder Vince McMahon is going through the mess that he’s in right now. God’s Judgment.

  7. Can't mock GOD and not be judged for it. We reap what we sow. This should sober alot of mockery but probably not, people will choose to be fools until the day the lake of fire becomes their permanent p.o. address.

  8. I enjoyed this. Yeah, VInce has been behind a good number of insane and/or reprehensible things that he thought were completely fine and he's been behind a good number of things that are funny only because of how insane they are that Vince didn't think was funny or insane but this really don't come off like one of those examples. These are straight up comedy sketches and everyone, including Vince, is clearly in on the joke. So I just don't think it deserves to be used in the same as, i dunno, Katie Vick or making Trish bark like a dog or even the Gooker and the birth of the hand, as I've see it used like. It's just edgy comedy, it's the WWE's Dogma. And it's nice to see someone presenting it like that.

  9. It had some moments, but I wasn't a big fan of the angle because I thought Vince just kept going to long with promos and such. And I'm not really a fan of religion in general, so I got rather bored with it quick.
