  1. I think once I get the remaining Origins figures that will be coming, I'll probably step away from the Cartoon Collection. Mainly due to space constraints.

I'm going to continue getting the Masterverse figures. That line is just too sweet.

  2. I fully understand the decision to move Origins to Mattel Creations, I guess that's better than shutting it down. However, to say that "everyone can get it" is a bit ignorant I must say, as US collectors are not the only one in the world. 🙂 You guys will be fine, you just won't be able to feel "the thrill of the hunt" (I personally find the wording hilarious though 😀 ) but for collectors from other parts of the world this will involve shipping cost and/or import taxes on top of the price of the figures, substantially increasing the total price.

For example, I live in Europe but outside of EU and shipping from Mattel Creations alone will cost $29 regardless if I'm buying a single Origins figure or a Snake Mountain so that will be fun…

  3. This pivot to Filmation was going to happen at some point. In fact Scott Neitlich, former MOTUC brand manager mentioned at one point that as far back as his time on the brand they were considering it. Obviously with Super 7 they did it over there for a little while also. It seems like the eventually default to this in order to refresh the line. I was kind of surprised to see that they also included a new body buck with this pivot. Regardless I don't envision it lasting more than a year or so before they start to run dry of character choices that would sell well at retail.

  4. I got a little confused as to what is going to Mattel creation and what is not. The way I understood it only Origins is moving over to MC and Masterverse is still going to be on the shelves, am I correct?

  5. Mattel going to creations is great if you are in the United States but every other country now suffers if they want to complete the line. Here in Canada figures at Walmart are $22.97, buying from Creations we are paying about $47 shipped so we are paying double for 1 figure, that makes collecting tough and frustrating. I am too deep in the line now to give up but if i was new to the line and I heard this I wouldn't support it.

  6. lots of good motu coming. but, i'm worried about this whole making origins and masterverse exclsuive to mattel creations. too many issues to come from that plus, if we don't get any notifications from them when these figures drop it's pretty much a lose lose situation like it's been with their own exclusives or like when duplico dropped.

  7. The thing with mattel cretions is that , they ship everything from the US, and they don't have this part of the business taylored for worldwide distribution, so for the collector that is not based in the United States , it means paying triple price for a figure with those high shipping rates, and import fees, – basically paying 60 bucks for a figure that usually costs 20 bucks or less if I buy it from Amazon here in europe. He.-man was a worldwide fenomenon – not just an American fad – so it is kind of sad to see mattel going with this approach with a line that a lot of collectors worldwide have been supporting – and probably will no longer be able to continue collecting due to the considerable rise on final price of each figure.

  9. Well, from how I’m understanding it, I believe that technically speaking, Origins is simply being rebranded at retail. It’s basically being split into two similar sub-lines of figures running concurrently: the Cartoon Collection, which will be at retail; and the Vintage Collection, which will be exclusive to Mattel Creations. Very reminiscent of what happened with Classics after 2015, how it split into “Collector’s Choice” and “Club Grayskull,” alternating figures every other month and then subsequently alternating waves upon being taken over by Super7. I know it’s all semantics…Mattel is basically “rebooting” the main line with what will essentially be Wave 1 of the Filmation figures.

I do understand the change from a business standpoint. Mattel wants to keep the most popular and recognizable characters on the shelves, and most casual MotU fans who have nostalgia for the 80s (like ourselves) already associate the characters with what they remember most from the original cartoon. It makes sense. As long as the remaining vintage characters will be readily available and not limited in quantity on Mattel Creations, then hopefully, this will be a good thing. However, if this ends up being a Grizzlor and Wun-Dar situation each and every time…heads are gonna roll!

  10. I’m super pumped for the MOTU origins filmation toy line.
I’m ok with Mattel Creations taking their Origins action figures to sell them at their website. Cool by me. I’m also keeping my eyes wide open for The Nightstalker horse. Got my Fisto with Stridor and I can’t wait to pair Jitsu with his own horse, just like the vintage line.
