David Benoit grew up in Los Angeles. He was bitten by the jazz bug after watching a Charlie Brown special on TV and listening to the music of Vince Guaraldi in 1965. ‘When I heard that jazz piano trio, that was the defining moment when I decided that I wanted to play like Vince Guaraldi’, says the pianist, composer and arranger. Aged thirteen, he began studying piano and later he also studied music theory, composition, orchestration and film scoring with several designated masters. Since then, he’s worked with an impressive potpourri of musicians including the Rippingtons, Dave Koz, Faith Hill, David Sanborn, CeCe Winans and Brian McKnight. David released his first album in 1977, followed by many other chart toppers. Apart from playing his own music, David has served as conductor with a wide range of symphonies including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Asia America Symphony Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. And currently, David hosts a morning radio show on KKJZ 88.1 FM in California. Overall, he has received three Grammy nominations and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Smooth Jazz Awards in 2010.

David Benoit wuchs in LA auf. Mit dem Jazz-Virus infizierte er sich 1965 – als er ein Charlie-Brown-Special im Fernsehen gesehen und die Musik von Vince Guaraldi gehört hatte. „Als ich dieses Jazz-Klavier-Trio hörte, wusste ich, dass ich wie er spielen wollte“, sagt der Pianist, der als einer der Gründerväter des Contemporary Jazz gilt. Mit dem Klavierspiel begann er, als er 13 war. Später studierte er Musiktheorie, Komposition, Orchestrierung und Filmmusik bei verschiedenen namhaften Lehrmeistern. Seitdem hat er mit einer Menge beeindruckender Musiker zusammengearbeitet, darunter die Rippingtons, Dave Koz, Faith Hill, David Sanborn, CeCe Winans und Brian McKnight. Sein erstes Album veröffentlichte David 1977, danach folgten viele weitere Chartstürmer. Wenn er nicht selbst Musik macht, dirigiert David. Er leitete etwa bereits das Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, das Asia America Symphony Orchestra und das London Symphony Orchestra. Und zurzeit moderiert in Kalifornien eine Radiomorgensendung auf KKJZ 88.1 FM. Insgesamt wurde David dreimal für den Grammy nominiert und 2010 hat er den Lifetime Achievement Award der American Smooth Jazz Awards erhalten.

Se contagió con el virus jazz en 1965 – cuando vio un especial „Charlie Brown“ en la tele y escuchó la música de Vince Guaraldi. „Cuando oí este piano trio de jazz supe que quería tocar cómo él,“ dice el pianista que es considerado uno de los fundadores del jazz contemporáneo. Comenzó a tocar el piano a los 13 años. Más tarde estudió teoría de la música, composición, orquestación y bandas sonoras con diversos maestros de renombre. Desde entonces ha trabajado con un montón de músicos impresionantes, entre ellos los Rippingtons, Dave Koz, Faith Hill, David Sanborn, CeCe Winans y Brian McKnight. David publicó su primer álbum en 1977, luego siguieron muchos más que conquistaron las listas de éxitos. Cuando no toca él mismo David está dirigiendo. Ya ha conducido la orquesta filarmónica de Los Angeles, el Asia America Symphony Orchestra y la orquesta sinfónica de Londres. De momento modera un programa matinal de radio en la emisora KKJZ 88.1 FM. En total David fue nominado para el grammy cinco veces y en 2010 se le otorgó la distinción por el rendimiento en su vida artística de los American Smooth Jazz Awards.
