The Red Planet appears to have had a thick atmosphere when it was young that was warm enough to support oceans of liquid water, which is a necessary component for life.
Blue skies, puffy clouds, and moving water were all present.
The planet is now frigid and dry, with little indication of life.
Mars may have formerly hosted oceans of water, according to ancient river routes and craters. We can conclude from this evidence that Mars once had a greater atmosphere around it, which prevented water from escaping into space.

However, the exact mechanism by which Mars’ dense atmosphere was destroyed some 3.7 billion years ago is still a mystery to astronomers.

According to the predominant explanation, layers of air were sucked into space when the planet lost its global magnetic field, which served as a form of shield to defend the atmosphere from charged particles released by the sun, known as solar wind.
Water can only exist as solid ice or gaseous vapour on Earth today due to the planet’s low temperature and thin atmosphere; liquid water would either freeze or boil. The sky appears red due to the iron oxides in the thick Martian dust that scatters other visible light colours.
