The actual model for Toda /Akechi Mariko, played by Anna Sawai, was Hosokawa Galasha, but her bombing was, unsurprisingly, a true story! The cemetery of Hosokawa Galashwa was guarded by her son and still exists. It was Marie-Antoinette who was very fond of Galasha's dying poem and was fascinated by her way of life and way of death.
Her main purpose for blocking the door was to die and become a martyr, not to stop the blast from getting the others
