Amid an increase in violent crime on the Metro Red Line over the past several years, ABC7’s Marc Brown took a ride on the subway train to see conditions are like these days. MORE: https://abc7.com/metro-red-line-b-subway-train/13355037/
Im a Metro Security Officer and Gina Osborn is full of shit . LAPD is very scarce, there are days where I go through my entire shift and dont see a single police officer. When i do they just walk up an down the platform real quick then leave. They barley ride the trains. Metro can do more but CHOOSES NOT TO.
LA's metro expansion is very narrow minded. Crime rates are high in the city due to the fact it has horrible zoning laws. People are less likely to turn to crime or violent tendencies if they have opportunities and ample comfort when living in Los Angeles. Housing prices are insane, jobs either pay really low for COL or out of reach for many, homelessness keeps being bussed in, and any new stations they open do not invite a thriving community. It's one of the most soulless international city in that it's built like a run down abandoned suburb with its poor job prospects, and its zoning laws makes housing ridiculously expensive even if you choose to live without a car (if you even can). Addressing these issues while increasing security at Metro stops will do wonders but good luck doing any of that when Republicans blame Democrats for everything, Democrats blame Republicans for everything, and nobody wants to hold anyone accountable for poor city planning. A safe, healthy, people oriented community is just as important as expansive public transport projects
The Metro is serious mess from me visiting a few months back. People fighting, smoking drugs/pipes, threatening passengers, approaching people, they are absolutely filthy, people asleep, asking everyone for money. As Mark Brown said in the video, if someone approaches you, you cannot get away either. It feels very unsafe for us tourist from outside the U.S riding it. Locals might be used to it but trust me, this is far from the norm in most other countries.
LA metro is just a rolling homeless camp full of druggies, just drive your car I know the traffic sucks but at least you don’t have to deal with people shooting up around you.
Mark, your report was accurate, and things have not improved at all. Nobody would or should allow their family or people they care about to ride the Metro Subway. The "ambassadors" are useless. They just look at their cell phones and offer no help at all. It's such a huge waste of money. A nice rail system is ruined because it's not safe to use it. I feel especially bad for unknowing tourists who use it. It really makes LA look bad and Metro doesn't seem to care. See something, say something they say, but nobody is listening or doing anything about it.
I’ve seen improvement recently, myself. I do still need to put my game face on when some riders are high, drunk and acting out. Or actively ignore them. I’ve never been attacked on the system, though. That said, I’m a guy, and I can believe I’d feel more concern if I were a woman
So if the cops are in the next car, can't move in between cars, if they do see something in another car, they just gotta stand by and wait till they get to the next station?
Oh man! Wsh I had kown about Marc Brown going covert to experince the negative and unfortunate reality that is L.A. Metro. That lady lied about riding L.A. Metro… to save face. Typical lies produced by an 'official' that is clueless about health and safety concerns on all conveyances. What Marc experienced is just a drop in the bucket of extreme lawlessness that has been allowed to fester and increase by lax MTA Board and management. Kudos to you Marc! You placed yourself in a position to gain first-hand knowledge of the blight aboard a red line sardine can. I bet the air conditioning wasnt working either.
Isn't the name red line a poor choice considering
I’m not riding LA Metro anymore.
Gavin Newsome is going to be president. Expect to spread to the rest of the country.
I am so sick and tired of the decay in America.
Los Angeles is a 3 world city
😂😂😂 why she say I would all proudly hell nah keep the kids off tha trains. The bus a little nicer.

Liar. Maybe with armed security she would ride it with her family

My uncle has seen a lot of crazy stuff going on in the Metro lines.
America is shit tbh the only thing that is keeping this country up is the immigrants and people of color.
Good reporting. Keep it up. Put pressure on Metro until the drug addicts no longer get on.
