Following on from my recent Apache video, I found myself in the mood for more Shadows. Here’s a look at the less well-know, but equally great track Man of Mystery. Hope you enjoy.

Damn, another good one to learn.
Wicked game Chris Isaak the next?
👍wonderful choice. I first heard this while watching the Edgar Wallace Mysteries with my dad way way back when.
Or blue hotel
F’ing brilliant. That solo made my shadow shake!!
Great piece! I hadn’t heard this before. Definitely will be working on this.
You missed Dm chord at 1:25 and 1:52 , otherwise great lesson!
Vary cool video Adrian, thank you for running thru the arrangement in detail…

As a kid in the sixties I loved The Shads and this was one of the 45s I bought. Yes it is the theme tune for the Edgar Wallace Mystery series of which many episodes were made. It is currently being shown every week on "Talking Pictures" TV channel. I love it—-both the tune and the series.
Awesome!
Beautiful 😍
Like deployed 👍
😎🎙🎸✅
Perfection, once again!
great, I love it, what echo are you using
One if my fave Shadows tune, they did some great instrumentals. Saw them back in the 60’s in Oxford Uk without Cliff, Hank and Bruce were really good singers, it was a great show.
Gotta love Hank! If you’re gonna go for a trilogy, my vote is ‘Wonderful Land’ – that & Apache are the 2 I remember from my long distant childhood…you have got the tone down like few others, well played sir.
Used to love Edgar Wallace… the opening credits were a lightbulb swinging with this theme. I was a wee bairn. We watched it after I got picked up from my grandads in my dad’s joiner’s van and gave a lift home to someone called Edgar Wallace. He was a glazier. He had cucumber sandwiches left over in a paper bag each day… so the music makes me see a swinging lightbulb and I always get the smell of linseed putty and cucumber. Incredibly strong memory. Brought it all back. Cheers!
Please do This night has opened my eyes by The Smiths when you’re available. Very melodic piece
Another great lesson! Can we get a lesson on the Smiths "Girlfriend In a Coma"? That would be wonky and fun. Thanks Adrian!
Probably my favourite Shadows piece after Foot Tapper. Thanks for bringing back those nice memories 😉
Adrian as always you have nailed it perfectly and as you say it is harder than most people think I will give it my best thank you, Sir
Is it just me or did Hank miss the "root" G going down the main riff at the end of the song, seems now I'm always waiting for that to come whenever I hear this song. I still can't play this properly btw but your lesson is bound to set me right on that so cheers Adrian!
Isn't it close to the theme of the tv show Mad Men ? It would make sens, don't you think ?
Thank you
Yes!!! Next "The Savage", "The Frightened City" or "Nivram", please!
Shadows music is good exercise to figure out by ear
Love a bit of Shadows
I think this is one of Hank's finest moments…chills whenever I hear this performance…the creak of the trem springs…the click of the selecter switch..that E octave trem slur…oo yeah! Great lesson x
Well played sir. You are a superb player
Am E A7 D Dm Am Dm E. Cool Bruce's bit.
Did you know that Hank turns round and round when he plays the song because Edgar Wallace's bust revolves during in the intro to the TV show.
Well said about Bruce being an underrated rhythm player. He was huge part of the Shadows sound and a big influence on noted rhythm guitarists such as Pete Townshend.
Loving it Ade! Can be tough to play, even Hank calls it "Man of Misery"!😆
Check out Chet Atkins version too.
This is a great one. Smiled at the little solo in the middle. Nice.
You can highlight any Shadows song they are all great, one of my favorite groups. Nice lesson
Steve Reynolds will be smiling on you tonight. You have made a lot of shadows fans happy.
You profess to be a big fan post-punk-new-wave guitarists. I am still yet to see you dedicate a video to Geordie Walker of Killing Joke. Surely, one of the most prodigious and productive guitarists of that genre. There are albums full of great guitar parts from Geordie that are yet to see the light of day on your channel of which I greatly admire. It's not just that I need you to illuminate how Geordie does what he does but selfishly I think he needs recognition (from you as a guitarist yourself) in the pantheon of post-punk guitarists. I have brought up this subject in other comments sections of your videos but Geordie uses a tremolo effect which at times (see the Fire Dances album) is reminiscent of Hank Marvin and the other 'Twang' guitarists of that era.
Not sure if this is true, The Shadows played and recorded Man of Mystery in the London Palladium Theatre late at night while empty, (no audience) so as to get a better echo on the opening chord. Sounds plausible.
Love your work, Brains. Please, please do the "Cham Cham' as played on the Thunderbirds episode called…The Cham Cham.
Every time I hear a Shadows recording I mysteriously get extremely hungry, can’t understand why.
👍🏻👍🏻
so cool
