Lorcana Pen & Book Symbols Explained. [Lorcana Game Design]

Disney Lorcana is a very well designed game.

The subtle Pen, Book, and Treble Clef card symbols have never been explained by Ravensburger. However, it’s safe to say that the current theory is true – it’s all about the flavor text. Without these symbols, Disney may have forced Lorcana game designers to choose between two different options.

  1. I hadn't even noticed the different symbols on the line dividing the different sections of text. I agree that is a really cool and subtle way to document the origin of the text. Tons of credit to Ravensburger however, this is 1000% something Disney is known for, to have small hidden gems out in plain sight that you may not actually see throughout their parks and in their movies. So it really should be no surprise it shows up in Lorcana.

My apologies I forget who pointed it out in their podcast but a great example of this type of subtle hints and clues is that of the Toy Ball that appeared in Toy Story 1 that has since made appearances in numerous other Disney/Pixar films.

  2. It was so fun figuring this out with the community! One thing I noticed though… With the Genie – On the Job reveal, his flavor text is from a song, they even credit it on the card, but the divider is still a book. My guess is that clef notes are saved for song cards specifically. I just thought it was interesting
