Let's make CYRE 1313 in 5e!

ALL ABOARD! It’s time to sketch out an adventure for Ravenloft’s only Domain of Dread, which is a haunted train! It’s the ghost train that perpetually flees the Mourning: Cyre 1313, the Mourning Rail!

  1. Thank you so much for making these videos! I found this channel a little under a week ago and have almost watched every video! I am happy with whichever domains you cover next, but am especially interested in Dementileu and Richemulot.

  2. Why in Ezras holy name has this channel so abysmal few subscribers? This is top tier theoretical and practical advice, sort of a crossover between Seth Storkowski, Matt Colville and DM Lair. I'm going to use parts of your Darkon & Bluetspür storylines in my own Ravenloft "supermod" campaign. You're so awesome, dude! Wish there were a dozen more people like you for other settings and adventures, pulling in old material and such. Thank you so much for your hard, HARD work and i hope to still be here to congratulate for your first 100.000 subs.

  3. I really like the ideas behind this one! I would add a train car that repeats itself like the hallway from P.T. as one of the cars. Maybe have the party walk in and witness a dining car full of passengers enjoying their (last) meals and a crowd of impatient passengers begging for something from the overtaxed kitchen staff. the tensions reach a boiling point when a starving passenger tackles another one and begins taking bites out of them, suddenly the illusion drops and the car is a blood covered mess full of zombies, driven by an eternal hunger. Nothing too challenging but after dealing with this horrifying car the proceed forward to find the next car is the exact same. Only by finding a way to feed the ghosts of the passengers like giving them rations or cooking them something in the kitchen via a skill challenge will the hungry spirits let them pass.

Also with the last passenger, I like the idea of his face being a blur of features and all that but I also like the idea of the last passenger being dead as the party arrives. Seeing a scene of him arriving and getting brutally beaten by the real force driving this train, the engineer. The man who had the power to save these people before the catastrophe hit but had to wait for the man who caused all this devastation. Either way this was a very cool idea my dude! Looking forward to your next adventure!

  4. Hell yeah, been eager for another one! Will you put these in a pdf we can purchase at some later date? I'd love to have easier access to these!

Also, trains make such great locations! My first year DMing a few years ago, we did a Christmas one shot where Krampus took over the Astral Express (Santa's space train!), and going car by car to solve the whole thing was a blast. I look forward to finding a place to add this.

  5. Another absolute banger of an adventure! This would be such a left hook for a party that wasn't expecting to take a dip into the Domains.

I like the monster selections for this, too.

Thanks for the excellent content, can't wait for the next one!

  6. Another amazing adventure! I love this one in particular, I think you absolutely nailed the evocative feeling of a haunted ghost train. Also, the clever reskinning of monster statblocks to mix up the encounters was super refreshing!

  7. Was recently discussing how trains are SO GOOD for horror. Love the Hurt reference, and the take on the Last Passenger as a war criminal in denial increases the darklord-worthiness, for lack of a better word. (Man, between this and Klorr, I really do need to go over my HEART books.)

    Voting for Mordent and Kartakass!

  8. Love the inspiration from Blaine! About to re-read Wasteland 🙂 You could even get some environmental hazards in, perhaps the train starts alternating between accelerating and breaking, effectively making everything difficult terrain (maybe causing concentration checks?) Once the team makes it to the engine either jets of steam or arches of electricity could shoot from the engine (whatever matches the tech level). This is such a great adventure! My players are currently deep into a campaign but I have got to convince them (or start another group) to get some one-shots done with all of your amazing material.

  9. Ran this in my campaign over the weekend as a plot device to move from doman to domain and it went over really well with my group. They loved it! Also, since they freed the darklord, I may have the train show up when they get to Klorr as a way to travel between the planets/islands as they make their way to the Eye of Klorr.

  10. Blaine is a pain and that is the truth <3. fistbump

Edit: Oh Holy shit, a Goodbye Blue Sky mention too. Buddy you've got some great influences. Seeing that film at 4 years old really stuck out in my brain for decades to come. That sequence was just riveting and gravely.

  11. I admit I don't really run 5E so I dunno how fast people expect to advance in that game but… 5 levels in one adventure? That seems a bit much!

The actual adventure itself sounded pretty cool though! I might gotta adapt it for the games I do run, hehe.

  12. I think I want to have the Necrichors at the end be manifestations of the engine being overtaxed/overheating trying to go faster. Make it a boss fight before the PCs can even reach the controls to shut down the engine and stop the train. I'm definitely thinking about adding a dining car or two to replace at least a few of the sleeping cars (which with my math there should be 6 of them) and will probably use the zombie idea from the comments. I'm also considering moving the dress up to the sleeper car (in case the PCs don't back track), and move the diary into the executive lounge, since that was where the Last Passenger was supposed to be. Otherwise this seems like a really great adventure, I'm looking forward to running it!

  13. Thank you! I put together one adventure in my campaign at the base of this. With the changes, that they start at level 5 and won't level up. And they meet the ghosts of their characters from our Curse of Strahd campaign that was TPK and therefore ended…inglorious.

  14. Congratulations, your videos are GREAT! I'm a huge fan of the Ravenloft setting since AD&D. Your adventures truly capture the feeling and narrative of the each of the domains. Cheers from Brazil!

  16. I am thinking of using Eberron 1313 in my Multiverse spanning campaign. It would be a good way of explaining how the Mourning occured in this campaign, which is related to overall campaign. It would also be a way of leaving Ravenloft.
This adventure is very inspiring, I may definitely use some of this.
