Even Heroes Don't Survive (Resistance 2)

Resistance 2 was honestly a mixed bag for me but I liked the experience overall and the story was enough to keep me going, so let’s get into it on today’s episode of What’s the Plot…

  1. I am happy you enjoyed Resistance 2, like I said. It did indeed up the ante. As for Resistance 3? Well… You'll know when you play it. Once again I am overjoyed you covered this series and can't wait for you to play future ones like Killzone which I mentioned before in one of your earlier videos, and perhaps Lost Planet. Which are both games near and dear to my heart.

Resistance 2 was an incredible game and is incredibly striking with its set pieces letting you know the sheer scale of fucked humanity is at any one time, and it's use of the multiple different strains of the Chimera and their creation adds such a visceral layer of horror that is either easily missed by you unloading a barrage of bullets in anything more than two eyes or strikes you in the face with the dark reality what these extra-terrestrial invaders are doing to your own species no matter be them young and old, sick or healthy, kind or cruel. The sheer visual storytelling as the protagonist mentally and physically tears himself apart until there's nothing left just so humanity can fight another day only to be put down and killed like a dog. His deeds going unheard and unsung, all for the biggest gut punch being the reveal of this mysterious new sky of unrecognisable planets and stars making you realise that despite everything you did, even sacrificing your own humanity. The Chimaera succeeded in their plan of "the sky is filled with Chaemeran stars", and before you can process this you are unceremoniously killed and the game ends. A great way to setup tension for the third game.

Can't wait to see your next video!

  2. when I played this years ago I just always assumed Capelli had severe PTSD the situation everyone goes through in this game series isn't just ww2 with steroids its a genocide in its worst form not only is humanity being wiped out but assimilated and turned into monsters I would be extremely pissed if command kept sending me on suicide missions with a dude who could turn any moment and kill me and my buddies.

  3. Great game, I played this so many times. I never did like how Hale didn't bother to ever take the inhibitors, obviously his time was limited anyway but it just seemed silly to me that he'd risk not being there to help save humanity, it felt a bit too much like he knew he was the main character and needed to make a heroic sacrifice.

Truthfully I barely remember the third game, I know I wasn't super in to it…but I still wish Sony would bring this series back, it has so many cool ideas and God damn PlayStation needs a solid shooter series. This was always way more awesome than Killzone if you ask me.

  4. Let me just say this R2 story is my favorite and let me say resistance 2 the ending wasn’t a worm hole the original intentions of this was earth was teleported to the chimera star system

What make me say this is a couple of things

1 shaperd YOUR SKYS WILL SHINE WITH OUR STARs 🌌 YOUR EARTH WILL TREMBLE

In his final battle quote YOUR SKYS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN

Yeah that sounds much more then a worm hole

And also the fact capplly can see the damn alien planet right in front of there faces from Mexico MIND YOU SEE resistance 3 for this reference 😑

Let me just say play resistance 3 first then please come back to this comment because I would like to hear your thoughts on it R3 was a good game but with lore it’s my least favorite of the two and you will find out way that is.🤨

All I will say is I was very DISAPPOINTED! ☹️

  5. Great video, resistance 1 and 2 were entertaining but for me I feel like the 3rd one has the most replayability. The story is more personal and Capelli comes across as a much more relatable character in terms of depth. Hopefully you cover the sequel in the future.

  6. It was always interesting to me that in the very end, Hale didn't try to fight or stop Capelli at all. I like to think while he had 'turned', his mind was still there, at least enough to know what had to be done.

  7. I remember being so hooked to Resistance 1 as it was my first ever PS3 title. I played through the campaign several times, gathering every bit of story, new game plus weapons and when Resistance 2 came out I was SO hyped. I remember when the ending cutscene played out, I was in complete shock and disbelief. I couldn’t believe that my favorite video game hero, Nathan Hale was dead. “ How could they kill him? That’s not fair!” I still think about it from time to time how impactful the series up to that moment really made me feel like the Chimera were cruel and terrifying.
