Let's Burn some Stuff! | Red Dead Redemption 2 Pt 8 | whoismae

Today Arthur and Hosea make a deal with Catherine Braithwaite that results in some impressive acting and moonshine pouring, we also join Bill, Lenny, and Karen in robbing the Valentine bank that turns into a gun fighting chase. Dutch decides that it’s in the gang’s best interest to play both sides of the feuding families and sends Arthur off to assist with stealing the Braithwaites horses and burning the Gray’s tobacco fields.

  1. That first mission made me fall in love with Hosea 😅 At first I didn't like him that much because he never went with the gang on missions and seemed like just a grumpy old man. But he grew on me with time and this Fenton thing was just hilarious 😂 I think he might even be a better talker than Dutch. Too bad I didn't appreciate him enough while he was there and I only realized how awesome he is so late 🙁 I think overall he might be one of my 3 favorite characters, along with Charles & Trelawny 😎

  2. 3:12 Andalusian horses are great, they're tied with the Lusitanos for my favorite Iberian horse breed (at one point, they were one and the same). Hope you find one soon!

Hosea's mission was so fun, it's always great when straight-faced, gruff Arthur has to interact and play along with more "extravagant" characters, you can just feel his combination of annoyance and embarrassment xD

23:18 Well of course you did, you saw how old Fenton was pourin' dem drinks? 😆

25:17 Yeah, the way Swanson was talking about was definitely… fanatic, filled with religious overtones (which is fitting for him). It's almost impressive how Dutch was able to ingratiate himself with every member at what seems like their most vulnerable points- apart from Hosea, who met Dutch as an equal, Swanson was already suffering from drinking, Arthur was an orphan, I think (?) they already mentioned that Pearson was into debt when Dutch recruited him, Molly definitely looks like she was just enamored with Dutch and followed him in a fit of passion (and is only now expressing doubt). So far, I think the only character that wasn't portrayed as especially vulnerable before joining the gang is Micah (of course 🙄)

37:52 Guess Arthur wasn't as sorry as you were 😆

That song during the entire bank escape was so great, man is this game's soundtrack awesome 🤩

47:50 Arthur certainly has his dishonorable moments no matter what you play as, especially early on. Though even when he acts like this, looking at his journal and inner thoughts, from what I remember, he is at least aware at how bad his actions are, and he thinks about himself in a very self-deprecating way. At this point, even when things are sort of unraveling, I think he still justifies himself with a certain "code of conduct" philosophy (similar to how Dutch sees himself as an honorable outlaw), and doesn't move past that. Only as time and certain events progress does his self-justification turns into self-actualization, and eventually (depending on your playstyle), redemption, which for me is a big part of why this story is so great.

52:12 Good point, John slipped up there xD

58:10 That poor, stupid bird 😆

1:11:04 Speaking of, have you ever thought about playing this in first-person, Mae? Honestly, both RDR2 and GTA look strange to me in first person, since I'm so used to another perspective, but it's a matter of taste and I wouldn't mind if you wanted to try it out.

Loved the visuals from the shootout with Sean, something about the light contrasts, the orange tint mixed with the nighttime, was really appealing to me (alongside the background track, of course).

Also, been a while since I was surprised by a hiccup, times are really changing xD

Very entertaining episode Mae, thank you! See you next time 🙂
