Here, we have a pattern that repeats in D minor, E minor and A minor. It’s a pedal-point sequence. I thought of it after a conversation about the intro to to Eric Johnson’s ‘Cliffs of Dover’. There’s a pedal-point lick in that and I have always tried to play it with hybrid picking.
For the uninitiated, hybrid picking is just when you use the pick and your fingers to pluck the strings. Here, I play all of the low notes with the pick, and all of the higher notes with the middle finger of my right hand.
