Today I’m breaking down Kendrick’s “good kid, m.A.A.d city” one track at a time. We’re going to get into the lyrics, Kendrick’s style, the production, recreate a few songs, and see the narrative of the album unfold. This is one of the most cohesive storytelling albums ever made. It’s full of darkness, tragedy, angst, questioning systems, faith, hope, and love. It’s also got some incredible beats and rhyming that’s unmatched. It’s like if an HBO series was a hip hop album.

  1. In my opinion, Prince Paul – Prince Among Thieves, is the most cohesive story telling album ever made. Good Kid M.A.A.D City is my favorite Kendrick album, so I'm not hating. Kendrick is also my favorite mainstream artist from the 2010's. It's just Prince Among Thieves is an underground classic that people slept on, if they're more of a corporate consumer that buys trends, than a Hip Hop head that doesn't need trendy marketing to find good music.

  2. Seriously Dr Dre IS a good producer but there IS better than him . Daz,DJ Quick, rza,DJ premier, DJ shadow any more but from west coast IS not a better . He IS a great producer and beat maker but he's not a better

  3. Hip Hop nut here from the UK. I don't usually comment but I'm really glad this album was broken down. One of my favourite albums ever. I listen to this album cover to cover and feel every word on this album. Modern classic and brilliant price of art. Ty again for another great video 🔥

  4. Good job breaking this down. I love a good concept album, but going the lengths to even cast some of the featurings to fit the story (and real life) is amazing.

Any plans on addressing the « reverse » concept of DAMN.?

  7. DITG always ruins/makes my weekend. It shows up every single time when I should put my phone down and go to sleep, it has become a routine. I know how to avoid this but I don’t want to and there’s nothing I click on faster than @diggingthegreats when it appears! This was not an exception. GKMC might just be one of the best rap albums, but TPAB gave us a whole new lineage in hip hop and it forced us to recognize funk and jazz as living parts of the genre.

You don’t HAVE to do a breakdown of TBAP, but you kinda do now 🤞🏻
