Thunder Road was always exciting to watch a race. Dave Moody made them really exciting. Ken ran a top notch operation at T-Road
What speedway did he say was the indy of the east? i couldnt make out what he said.
And that is how it should be done!!!
True Chris Economaki was great. As well as Ken .
essex junction fair grounds. memories!
I'm so glad we are getting the opportunity to watch these. What a guy and treasure he is
Love listening to old Winston cup races with Ken. I met him at the gate at Thunder Road. It was like meeting a living legend of the sport.
My son and I met Mr. Squire at his 2009 Milk Bowl and what a gentleman he is. We sat in the stands with Johnny Gammell the Milk Bowl winner in 1964. A day we shall never forget…………
You have to put Ken up there with the likes of Cosell,Costas,Madden,Michaels,Jim Mckay,….iconic voices of any generation
Racing is Missing exsactly what Ken is talking about .. People forget all The Great Booth guys in Nascar Cut their teeth on being in the Booth at smaller tracks and Doing MRN Radio in the Early years Developing their Skills as a Announcer before they Moved to a Television Broadcast booth for Live events But Todays TV Networks wont to take cookie cutter drivers without any Experience of Telling the stories as spectacular as they Would if they had spent a couple years in a Track Booth Announceing or MRN Radio Learning their Craft to tell the Storiee of the Race with a flare of stretch to enhance it a Little Ken is One the All Time Greats ,so is Economacki
If you listen to the Jr podcast, Bloomquist would disagree about Chris

Ken Squier is the MAN.
Ken called races like no other announcer in history. He made every race exciting and interesting. The absolute best.
That suit terrible ππ
Instantly brought back great memories watching races with Dad and Grandpa, thank you for this
The average person has NO IDEA what they are seeing in most sporting events. I've driven a Rally car that was CRAZY fast (Peugeot 206). But the biggest handful was a winged Sprint Car – where you turned right to go left and basically steered with the gas pedal.
cow story was a bit of a yawner…
I loved this guy his opinion and outlook for racing
I grew up listening to ken squier on mrn then on tv. Between him and Eli Gold, there won't be anyone else like them along with the rest of mrn past legends
I am old enough to have heard Ken Squire's Vermont radio show and listen to him call racing at Catamount Speedway and Thunder Road back in the late 60's. As great as he was on national TV, he was far more entertaining to listen too him call local short track races. The language he used was a lot more 'colorful' during the heat of the moment and said some words that you couldn't say on TV back then. He is a Legend for sure.
Thank you guys for this interview. True legend Ken Squire!!
I love all the old Broadcasters. Just like all the old Drivers story's
That's the thing about watching races today. Even Mike joy back in the day just had more energy. No one wants to listen to monotone announcers talking about a sport that we have such passion for. Grab a guy from Talladega and a fan from Daytona, throw them in the booth and I bet you'll be shocked!
Definitely next level
Ken Squier and the entire CBS broadcast team (Ned Jarrett, Neil Bonnett/Buddy Baker, Mike Joy, Chris Economaki) were fantastic! The ESPN crew of Bob Jenkins, Ned Jarrett and Benny Parsons were equally fantastic. I miss the 1990s era NASCAR broadcasts. The coverage was outstanding and the production wasn't a clown show like it became in the 2000's.
The Golden age of announcing is dearly missed, just like our hero's who made the story !
Ken comes from an era in broadcasting that did not have people talking over one another trying to pull off the best one liner. The commentary was real and the production was spot on.
Such a treasure. I started watching nascar with my dad in the 70,s and remember listening to many races on the radio post 1979 as well. . They all had such a way of painting a perfect picture for you.
The guy asking the questions appears to be starstruck and you can tell his age by his giggling. Heβs asking good questions but itβs like heβs never been around a βcelebrityβ before.
He will get to Jr.βs level one day, if he learns.
Ken Squire you SIR are a National Treasure and a very BELOVED MEMBER OF NASCAR and I have fond memories of listening to you and Chris at the track and on the radio. Y'all were magical and added excitement to a race that was never boring but Y'all intensified the excitement if there was a brief pause during a caution or there wasn't much passing happening and Y'all provided π― million percent PURE ENTERTAINMENT while keeping everyone's attention on who was running out front ,mid pack or even in the back of the field. You SIR were magical to listen too. I hung on to every word. And the banter Y'all had between Y'all in the booth and whoever was in the pits, kept things EXCITING, INTERESTING AND FUN, except when a serious crash happened and your tones changed gears to a somber moment until you knew each driver involved was okay. This fan is truly grateful and thankful and BLESSED by your contribution to the only sport on the planet that's worth more than all the money, gold, silver and gemstones in the world. Thank you Ken Squire SIR for some great memories of magical moments that were made a million times better due to your contribution. Dale Jr. Thank you for sharing this Precious Priceless Treasured Blessing with a legendary hero. Keep these Beautiful Precious Priceless Treasured Memories alive because stories like these are what made Nascar a success from the beginning. I wish Nascar was more like the old Nascar but to many of these young driver's could NEVER DO what your Precious Dad, Granddad Ralph, Buck Baker and Buddy Baker,Tiny Lund, Cale Yarbrough, Donnie and Bobby Allison, Fireball Roberts, Bobby Isaac, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson ,Jr. Johnson and so many others did, racing continuously for 400-600 laps/ miles straight with only pit stops for tires and fuel. I know that had it not been for your misfortune to suffer concussions that took you out of the race car full time, you could last racing for hours with no problem. GOD HAD BETTER PLANS FOR YOU AND YOU'RE DOING AN OUTSTANDING JOB OF KEEPING NASCAR ALIVE AND KEEPING THE OLD STORIES ALIVE WHICH IS A PRICELESS TREASURED BLESSING AND WILL BECOME PRECIOUS PRICELESS TREASURED MEMORIES AND BLESSINGS IN THE FUTURE . I'M TRULY GRATEFUL FOR YOUR INSIGHT ON THE IMPORTANCE OF PEOPLE NEW TO THE SPORT AND EVEN NEWER DRIVER'S TO KNOW THE HISTORY OF HOW NASCAR CAME TO BE SUCH AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE AND SPORT. I LOVE DIRT TRACK RACING MORE THAN ASPHALT BUT I STILL TUNE IN TO WATCH NASCAR BUT WITHOUT YOU, IT'S NOT THE SAME. AND I MUST SAY I HATE THE STAGE FORM OF RACING, I WANT IT LIKE IT WAS BUT LIKE I SAID, NO DRIVER RACING NOW WITH THE EXCEPTION OF 1 MAYBE 2 DRIVER'S COULD HAVE THE STAMINA TO LAST RACING FULL THROTTLE FOR HOURS. THANKS AGAIN DALE FOR THIS PRECIOUS BLESSING πππ€ππYOU'RE THE BESTπππ€ππππ MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR PRECIOUS FAMILY AND COWORKERS WHO HELP DO EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE GOING ON ALONG WITH KELLY AND HER FAMILY AND YOUR OTHER SIBLINGS AND FAMILY MEMBERS ππ€πππππππππππππ
In the early days of racing it was exciting. Then NASCAR started changing in the 90s and took away the need for sleeping pills.
The 3 best to call nascar races in my opinion were Ken Squire and the late Great Bob Jenkins and Mike Joy
One of the best π―
