Many of you may have heard about the recent episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast where he interviewed the renowned Jordan Peterson, and at a number of points in their conversation, the subject turned to Peterson’s views on Christianity, which included a profound explanation of the role of the Bible in the formation of Western Civilization. Rogan sat rather spellbound as Peterson detailed what the Bible actually is and its significance for cultivating the world as we know it. What I found so fascinating about Peterson’s explanation was how well it resonated with what cultural anthropologists have been observing about the inherently religious foundations of all civilizations around the world, and why our current secular world is beginning to implode. So what I want to do is play you Peterson’s explanation of the Bible, and then I’m going to compare it to what cultural anthropologists are saying to help us better appreciate why secular liberalism is waning and why a new post-secular age is rising.

I completely disagree. You can easily come to the truth without a belief in God. You can conduct scientific experiments. You can believe that human suffering is unpleasant, because you yourself have experienced pain. You can avoid suffering and also try to reduce the suffering of others. You want to try to reduce the suffering of others, so that they also try to reduce the suffering of yourself. In other words, being nice is a selfish endeavor. All of this doesn't need a fictional God. We can use reason and logic to arrive at conclusions. We can make observations about our own experience and about the experience of others. The Bible is full of all sorts of garbage stories. It should not be used as a guide for anyone.
Fundamentalist/ evangelical Christians seldom exemplify what is taught in the Bible. They use it as a manipulative rationale for shaming and guilt-tripping others to make themselves seem more righteous than they actually are. There is no depiction in the New Testament that suggests Christ went about finger-wagging at people to get them to convert to His message of salvation. Instead, he exemplified the principles He talked about. No one is converted to Christianity by means of shame and threats of hellfire, only love, kindness, compassion. Which is exactly what is missing in the behavior and characters of most hyper-zealous "Christians".

Joe Rogan is a smart guy. But there are plenty of smart individuals . . . even brilliant individuals who reject Biblical truth. They do so of course at their own peril. Anyone who studies the archeological evidence alone can't help but realize the accuracy of the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments.
Add to that the more than 324 individual prophecies that related to the Messiah which Jesus fulfilled. Furthermore, we can look at Biblical eschatology and see the fulfillment of those prophecies related to the end times slowly unraveling in front of our eyes.
Arrogance and a lack of humility are what hold individuals back from examining the Bible with an open mind and an open heart. Some fear that if they look too closely they'll be convinced and have to change their lives. Others simply write it off as myth and fairy tales having never really examined the evidence.
Josh McDowell, Lee Strobel, J. Warner Wallace (among others) are all examples of men who took the time to examine the evidence, and each of them concluded the accuracy and God-inspired writings of the Bible. Jesus said you have to be like unless you change and "become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
A child takes whatever you tell them on faith. They inherently trust. That's what Jesus was talking about. Put aside the adult arrogance and the hardened heart of man and embrace the way a child views the subject of God.
Both Joe Rogan and Dr. Peterson are very knowledgable and articulate so why did I just click on your podcast? Just wasted 15 minutes of my time listening to your babble.

Spirituality is defined by Kenneth Pargament as "the search for the sacred". Spirituality is the human need of finding a connection with what we have, consciously or unconsciously, defined as what is most sacred to us. The sacred is different from person to person but this need to search for such meaningful attachment is definitely present in all humans.
You are assuming the fact that the Bible is the only book back in it’s time. You forget the crusades burned a lot of truth so that the Bible could take over. The only reason the Bible is widely known and spread like your talking about is because of the crusades. Need to read up more on the Bible’s history rather than what’s in it. The truth can only be the truth if there is a basis and there will never be a basis because we didn’t start at the beginning or the ending so we are just the chapters in between and are just as lost in the story as the reader right now
