The wheel did a great job!!!All great stuff!!
haha for the first time i have an actual uncertainty based on accent- is it thrash metal or trash metal on the soundtrack of the first game?
@1:11:56
GG's? Pfft.
Rapid 99 4 lyfe!
After hearing you mention no one had anything on Zero/Vertex I did some digging around, and you were right. Until I finally found a Japanese YT streamer who managed to hit every ending and get the credits to play. I wrote out everything, going to try adding it to the mobygames entry, maybe we'll see a bunch of crossover hits with existing staff at other companies and figure where this studio came from for only a single game. Though it seems like a lot of the casting was done through "theatrical company june theater" (劇団 六月劇場).
Edit: Well that didn't take long. Bob Timbello is one of the core designers and he was a writer on Dungeon Explorer II and a Planner on Dino Crisis 3. LMAO.
man the intro for side by side looks like a clip taken from season 1 of initial D
Mom! I'm on the telly! As for the Side by Side and it's difficulty, I've been playing this game on and off for more than a decade and I'm as bad at it now as I was day one. Ridge Racer it's not
Dude did you try side by side with a wheel because you may have more joy that way
I wish Japan had faith that we would embrace their madcap style and sense of humour. I would've loved to had played Mad Panic Coaster (although looking difficult af) back in the day as well as that Slap Happy Rythm game, Mental! Great stuff Sean.
Yo that pop punk song at the start of mad panic coaster slaps!!!
Great Video Sean, an epic selection of games here for sure. Mad Panic Coaster looks insane & i will have to try it when i get the chance, I played Side by Side a while back & i agree it is a cool game but is tough, i think its by far one of the best racers I've played on the PS1 so far. Slap Happy Rhythm Busters I agree is an epic game, been playing that over recent months & i never knew about it until you mentioned it on Twitter so had to try it out & it is as good as it looks, a really cool game. Dark Tales is an interesting game, I'll definitely have to look more into that for sure. Again another great video, totally enjoyed watching, Cheers!
Great Video Sean! How about seeing "Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counter Attack" That would be rad! Keep up the great work brother, I joined your patreon. I want to see my boy blow up.
SideBySide exudes a DAD ENERGY that i dont know if i can quite explain, but it just feels like one of those simple, well presented games that an older person can pick up for a short time, enjoy the slick presentation and real cars and its difficult and subtle enough that it can justify coming back for long periods of time.
My dad had some rally games on the PS1 and PC that were exactly like that
If you're taking seconds, I'd like to add Crisis City to the wheel if it's not taken.
Oasis road ps1 please
Oh my, do I have thoughts this time around!
So, Mad Panic Coaster… Honestly, even just watching the footage felt exhausting, which might make me just another old man, but hear me out, here – the camera is too close in on the coaster car. Sure, it gives a good view of the characters in the car, which gives the game more personality, and sure it gives the sensation of vertigo and speed (what Roger Callois termed 'ilinx'), but it also makes it really hard to see things to react to them in time, both enemies and turns. I dunno, I might be wrong; you played it and I didn't, so what do you think?
Side by Side Special – not much to say other than if you had a rough time with it, it would unequivocally destroy me.
Slap Happy Rhythm Busters – Okay, I need to try this. Between this, Incredible Crisis, and Galerians, I think Polygon Magic may be taking a place beside Human Entertainment as a PS1 dev I will absolutely proselytize for!
Dark Tales from the Lost Soul – I absolutely agree with you about the visual style just feeling more horror game to me. For me, I think it's because my first experiences with horror games had nothing to do with Resident Evil (although, I did notice the RE2 BG music; well played). Instead, I cut my teeth on games like D, Mansion of Hidden Souls, and the like, where these new-fangled polygons were pre-rendered in high, glossy quality, so seeing that with the skeletal host is just right up my alley. Also, just based on the title screen, I suspect that Vertex and Zero are separate companies – the title screen copyright shows Sammy and Zero, with Zero appearing to stand alone (I could be wrong, though – I unfortunately do not know what the kanji says).
Another fantastic episode! I really needed something like this right now, so thank you! You and @SteadySphere are absolute heroes.
Only youtuber these days that I will stop what I'm doing to watch your videos
The comment you make at about 39:38 about not seeing the x men game at a tournament anytime soon, You absolutely may see this having tournaments soon. A beta was just released (about 4 days ago) for PS1 netplay with rollback netcode.
Love you and Basement Brothers so much! Next to Chrontendo, Jeremy Parish, and Kim Justice your two channels are the best on youtube for old stuff.
