Man, I had to miss this one 😭 sadness
8:40 Gameplay Starts for Akira.
Rycon! You scrapped a child! FOR SHAME 🤪🤣
Thanks for continuing Akira's story!
It’s always fun to watch you play!
You can have a lot of fun with mutations. Bird Bones gives you a gentle glide and massively reduces fall damage, Speed Demon improves run and sneak speed, and Marsupial makes me feel like a superhero.
Also, attempted jumping off the monorail with a build perfectly specced for fall damage reduction, and my character still became pasta sauce on landing.
Love the Characters moving between games.
Akira and her bufftits, well played Rycon
18:05 – Little behind the scenes fact with this quest: Originally this quest would've taken you to the Atlas Observatory but when the Steel Dawn DLC was released and that location was repurposed for the Brotherhood, this quest was re-written and moved to the National Radio Astronomy Research Center.
32:09 – You are next to a sewer cover that leads to a new area that was added to the Wastelander's DLC called "The Burrows," it is a completely new settlement that had signs of a smaller faction residing there calling themselves "Burrow Boys," but they had no impact on the surface. In fact, we (the players) was hoping that this would be a dungeon and was greatly disappointed to learn that there is no quest other than "Waste Management," that leads us there. Today, it is used as a random location for a Brotherhood Daily Ops quest and that's it.
32:09 – (same time code) The Free States claimed the Armory as their own territory. The survivors at Harpers Ferry didn't like it but Raleigh Clay felt that more security measures were needed because the Brotherhood were a threat. That is why this building is loaded with so many traps and turrets loaded with explosive ammo.
45:52 – After the death of Sam Blackwell's daughter, he reconnected to the Free States and Raleigh Clay put him to work in the armory. However, Sam constantly feared discovery and retribution for his actions against the government before the war and he identified an Enclave operative in town staring him down at Harpers Ferry. Without telling anyone he retreated back to his bunker and Raleigh never knew what happened to him. Everyone thought that the mangled body that was talked about in the journal was Sam's but Raleigh was sure that this wasn't him. And he is right. (I will pick on more on Sam's post-war story after you are finished with the Brotherhood)
1:09:34 – That nuka effect is from the cranberry. It boosts exp gained for about an hour. Enjoy!
1:12:16 – I already mentioned in chat about the quest, "Best of Intentions," that the man's dog had cancer and wasn't responding to the medicine so he put it into an aerosol which didn't help but it turned the creatures surrounding the farm albino.
1:14:18 – At the base of East Mountain Lookout, you came across a gruesome scene. Some settlers from Foundation got a hold on some Brotherhood weaponry, namely, rocket launchers, and they blew themselves up. The Brotherhood quest, "Supplying Demands," from the Steel Dawn DLC would've included a holotape with an audio recording that depicts this.
1:32:52 – Sam Blackwell's pre-war story is that Sam was a US Senator for the Appalachian Territory before the Great War. He started his public life as a union activist and he would broker deals with regional powerhouses like Garrahan Mining and Hornwright Industrial. He gained notoriety among other politicians and popularity among the people. He humiliated another senator by exposing his corruption with Atomic Mining Services, and he made unofficial inquires into the bizarre investments made by the Department of Agriculture and butted heads with the department's secretary, Thomas Eckhart. (Make a mental note of him for later)
Blackwell's open support of the Free States movement and his friendship with Raleigh Clay caused his popularity to wane with people calling him a traitor. There were threats to him and his family and he disappeared from the public eye with calls to his office and home going unanswered and his daughter stopped showing up for classes at VTU. His wife filed for divorce and was granted her request.
He had one last final public appearance was in the form of an interview with Quinn Carter with the Charleston Herald. In the interview he said some very damning things about the US Government that pretty much sealed his fate as a US Senator. People were demanding to know where Blackwell went and even put pressure of Quinn Carter calling for her resignation as a reporter. The holotapes of this interview can be found in two parts in Quinn's old office of the Charleston Herald in Charleston. (This is the end of Sam's pre-war story)
1:45:00 – Congrats, you finished all of the Free States quests. Next is the Brotherhood quests. (not to be confused with the Steel Dawn / Steel Reign quests)
2:05:02 – Quick reminder, the Foundation map marker, The Crater map marker, and Fort Atlas map marker are free. No caps needed to fast travel.
2:18:04 – This holotape is a spoiler from the Wastelander's DLC. You weren't meant to find it. The zone interior is for a quest, if you side with the raiders instead of foundation.
2:38:26 – Lucky Hole mine has a lot of lore deep within about the Cult of the Mothman and a cult splintering to side with a being known as the Interloper. It's got a Dunwich / Lovecraftian feel to it and would make for an interesting diversion if Akira ever wanted to check it out.
2:41:17 – The Monorail Elevator was disabled due to the widespread EMP disruptions that came from the nuclear bombs. The people up top were traped and perished. Later, survivors came in and added scaffolding to either salvage or use the defunct monorail as a shelter. This is the highest point in all of Applachia. This monorail line connects RobCo Research Center, Watoga, Spruce Knob, and Bramwell.
The Monorail Elevator was inspired by a real world reference called the Falkirk Wheel in Scotland, that opened in 2002.
2:47:10 – Remember that there are two Brotherhood groups. The ones that occupied Fort Defiance were lead by Paladin Taggerty and they were wiped out by the Scorched Plague. The second group just arrived to Appalachia and occupy Fort Atlas. This second group is lead by Paladin Rahmani. You haven't met her yet.
Okay, that's it for this stream. See ya next week!
