Is Soul Sleep Biblical or Do Believers Go to Heaven When We Die?

Is soul sleep Biblical? When we die, does our soul go to sleep or do we go into the presence of God? What exactly happens to a person when they die? Some will suggest a doctrine called soul sleep. They claim that when you die, you become unconscious and your soul “sleeps.” Others claim you go directly to heaven if you believe in Jesus. This video will discuss the doctrine of soul sleep and evaluate it against the backdrop of what the Bible says about what happens when we die.

  1. Hey BEAT family! This is a follow-up video from many of the questions you all asked on my video about "Can People in Heaven Watch What's Going on Here on Earth?" Many people made the claim that there are no people in heaven now. This video discusses the idea of soul sleep and whether or not that concept is biblical. Enjoy and let me know your thoughts below!

  2. I believe the people who live their lives badly ( committing crimes on purpose , making death threats to themselves or others & physically killing someone ) without repenting to god will experience hell as of their souls . While the ones who do believe in Christ living their life within good hands vise versa

  3. Believe the Bible teaching on death?

    Or the one man teaches?

    Ezekiel 37:13-14 KJV

And ye shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves,

And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it, saith the Lord.

    John 5:28-29 KJV

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

    Matthew 27:52-53 KJV

And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

    Psalm 13:3 KJV

    Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

A clear and unambiguous teaching emerges from the 54 passages that describe death as a sleep combined with the several verses stating that the dead are not conscious and not doing anything (Eccles. 9:5, 10; Job 14:21; Psalm 6:5, 146:4). That clear teaching is that death is an unconscious, dreamless sleep

    Two sides in a war

Whom do you believe? God’s Word?

    Or your opinion

  4. I just listened to what you shared with us on the topic, what happens to you when you die. Having heard others speak and teach on this topic, I think the way you explained things and the scriptures you shared, is the best explanation I have heard so far.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share what you have learned. I really appreciate it. I will share this with others..

  5. Do we sleep or go to heaven?

Solo Scripture, no opinions, you decide. I pray that the holy spirit leads you always!

Jeremiah 31:34 "They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,'…

Job 3:11 "Why did I not die at birth, Come forth from the womb and expire?

v12 "Why did the knees receive me, And why the breasts, that I should suck?

v13 "For now I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept then, I would have been at rest,

Job 14:12 So man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep. (UNTIL HEAVENS ARE NO LONGER? NOR BE AROUSED OUT OF HIS SLEEP?)

Psalms 13:3 Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.

Mattew 27:52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; (THE SAINTS WHO HAD FALLEN ASLEEP WERE RAISED?)

Luke 8:52 Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He (Jesus) said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep." (BUT IS ASLEEP?)

John 11:11 This He said, and after that He (Jesus) *said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep." (HAS FALLEN ASLEEP? WHO SAID THIS?)

v12 The disciples then said to Him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover."

v13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep. (THEY THOUGHT THAT HE WAS SPEAKING OF LITERAL SLEEP?)

v14 So Jesus then said to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead, (HE SAID TO THEM PLAINLY?)

John 14:2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. (I GO TO PREPARE)

v3 "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

(I WILL COME AGAIN AND RECEIVE YOU?)

1 Corinthians 15:51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, (A MYSTERY?)

v52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. (THE DEAD WILL RAISE? BUT AREN’T THEY IN HEAVEN ALREADY?)

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. (WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO BE UMIFORMED… ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE ASLEEP?)

v14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. (THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP IN JESUS?)

v15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. (WILL NOT PRECEDE THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP?)

v16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. (ARE NOT THE DEAD ALREADY IN HEAVEN?)

v17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

v18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Ephesians 5:14 For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you." (AWAKE, SLEEPER?)

  6. A lot of debate on this subject, some people says you sleep in the grave until the second coming of Jesus, other people says you go to heaven or hell after the judgment, I look at it this way it doesn't really matter to me I'm a Christian I know I'm going to heaven and I trust the Lord.

  7. Matthew 10:26-28, Jesus warned, " FEAR THE ONE WHO CAN DESTROY BOTH THE BODY AND THE SOUL," (soul means a chance for 2nd, life ) Deut,32:39, /1st, Samuel 2:6, /2nd, Kings 5:7,, Look now! That I – I am He, and no other gods apart from me, I put to death and I will make alive,,I wound and I will heal,, and NO ONE CAN RESCUE FROM MY HANDS,,! Ezekiel ,18:4, The souls who sinned will die, A son cannot carry the sins of his father,,A father cannot carry the sins of his son,,,The righteousness of the righteous one, will be accounted to him alone,,and the wickedness of the wicked will be accounted to him alone,,,So, the idea of offering prayer to save the soul is endeed big lie, ,,Mark, 12:26-27, Jesus also said, "Concerning the dead to be raised up? You are very big mistake, Jehovah will not raise up again those who did not know him as The God of Abraham,, The God of Jw's,

  8. I overdosed on fentynal I experience something like sleep I don't think my soul left my body but I have no idea. Following Jesus has taken my addiction away regardless. In my opinion I very well could of been going to hell like 92% of people but there was no pain only peace only silence I honestly felt like the time had stopped I belive Jesus and what he says I very well was almost with Jesus in paradise. There is more people for me to help to come to know Jesus. Let me know your thoughts.

  9. People get so caught up in "Religion" mans idea of what happens after death, all people need to do is read the Bible why can't people understand if their beliefs don't line up with what the Bible teaches then they are believing lies… I enjoyed your teaching, the Bible absolutely disproves the soul sleep hogwash… Thank you for this video

  10. What would be the purpose of judgement if you go to heaven or hell when you die? You would already know your judgment. This is why I believe you sleep. Also it says in the bible the dead know nothing.

  11. Semantics, so if we join our ancestors why the ritual of death, why don't we just go, why the ritual of death and funeral. I agree with you on some subjects but the Bible says the dead know not anything. how can then I be in heaven watching others???

  12. Lets take a look at the word soul, in the bible concordance the word soul means breath. Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. When a person dies his soul (or breath) returns to God and the body returns to dust.

  13. I believe that Christians go to heaven and unbelievers go to hell to wait for judgment. Revelation states that Hell and unbelievers will spend eternity in the lake of fire and Christians will spend eternity here on a new earth and new heaven.

Heaven and hell, as we think of it now, will both be done away with in eternity. They are just holding places until judgment day.

  14. So from what I understand: basically Hades is jail awaiting sentencing and Hell is prison where you serve your sentence for eternity as their final destination. And next to Hades is the "waiting or perhaps convalescing area" called Paradise (or Abraham's Bosom as translated from Hebrew) then when judgement of all is done, Paradise waiting area people go to Heaven as the final destination. What I also read from Hebrew is that there's a place called Sheol in Hebrew that houses Abraham's bosom – so in Hebrew Sheol the word for let's say the compound that houses the Hades area and the Paradise area because they are right next to each other. I wonder what is the English and greek equivalent for Sheol which houses these two waiting areas?

There is scripture that says, past tense, no one has been to heaven except Jesus, however there's all kinds of people who have near death experiences and come back bringing people to God with their stories of visits to heaven. Or were those just visions? Or were they being shown Paradise?

  15. I know someone who flatlined. She said that at first she (her spirit?) hovered above her body. She could see drs working over her, could hear over the intercom, “Code Blue! Stat!” And she could see staff hurrying toward her in the hall. She was aware of her body and her body’s surroundings. Her soul (mind?) was “awake?” But, she said she had no more physical awareness of the severe pain her body was suffering.

Suddenly, she said, she (her spirit?) began to ascend; through the hospital roof, through the clouds; until, before her, was her (non-physical) grandmother who’d died when she was 14. She recognized her (not physical) great grandpa whom she’d known as a child. There was like a group reaching out to welcome her that she said she could feel were of her ancestors.

Then, as Paul wrote, she said she was before Jesus.

From the time she began to ascend, she (her soul/mind?) had no awareness of (was “asleep” to?) what was happening in the world; only awareness of the realm where she (her spirit?) was. She was only aware of great love, peace and joy (in her spirit?) in that place; and of Jesus.

    Body die?
    Soul sleep?
Spirit return to God/Christ from which it came?

  16. God has appointed to every man
his time. We live in time and also die out
of time and wait until our change comes.(ressurection when Jesus returns at the last day)
in other words we wait for the time
when our body on earth will be reunited
with the breath of life (spirit of life)from god in heaven at the time of Our change during the resurrection. when you die out of time and are sleeping in silence with no recollection of time
then a thousand years is as one day and
one day is as one thousand years. for
some who has died in faith it has been
over six thousand years but since they
are out of time and have no recollection
of anything. when they are awakened to
enter into their change to them it will
be as just one day that they were asleep(dead)
therefore those who have fallen asleep
in death are not anxiously waiting to be
resurrected but rather will be awakened
in peace never knowing they were in
death for any length of time. That’s why Jesus calls death a sleep because your in a state of complete and total unconsciousness.
