Is Sea of Thieves TOXIC?

Is Sea of Thieves TOXIC?

If the internet is to be believed, then Sea of Thieves is riddled with toxicity. Apparently, everybody will always attack you on sight, steal your treasure and call you names whilst doing it.

But is that actually true? Or are people merely exaggerating an issue that’s present in every PvP game? That’s what I want to find out today.
I have decided to conduct a social experiment in which I go undercover as a “new player” in an attempt to find kind hearted pirates willing to lend me a hand.

And if they do, they will be rewarded.. With a massive stack of loot.

  1. Honestly, maybe it's just because you select the best moments to make a story out of. But Sea of Theives seems to be one of the lessor toxic PVP games, because time and time again in almost every one of your stories you wind up teaming up with another vessel. And that just doesn't happen really in other games.

  2. I've helped so many new players at outposts and have given away an incredible amount of loot while also providing some tips (watching people sword lunge for the first time truly is a treat) because people do need to know not everybody in this game is a toxic jerk. Here's hoping they passed it on.

  3. My first experience with sea of thieves was like that. I just finished training and was thrown to open world first thing which I experienced was a toxic guys whom sink my ship at port and yelled some toxic staff on me, so nothing will change my mind about this game now.

  4. I just watched this video but me and my crew went around last night "checking people for contraband" and then planting and leaving said "contraband" on their ship.

    It was wonderful.

  5. the other day me and my friend attacked a reaper solo sloop (we're trying to get better at naval we kinda suck) and after like 20 minutes of fumbling he started chatting "bots" in chat at least 3 times so the next time i hopped over to his ship i said in voice "like being rude to people who are learning the game?" (we've played the game for about 5 years off and on but we have avoided pvp as much as possible till recently) and he didnt say a word after that but a minute later we sunk we went back to fight for our flag reaper chest and what ever else we had and he was nowhere to be seen he didnt take our loot or flag and we never found his barrels floating or any of his loot. we have no idea what happened to em and even though we went back as fast as we could and it did not take us long some of our loot sank :l edit: to be fair we were 2v1ing and loosing hand over fist but thats learning right? i personally got really frustrated at the battle though i tried not to its hard being so close to victory a couple of times and ending up sank

  6. In my experience, sea of thieves is NOT new player friendly. Im really bad at pvp, so if i get attacked, i fight back and lose an hour or more of stuff. It got so bad that ive given up on the game.

  7. New player here. I always take my supplies to give to another player before I log out.
The majority shoot first, but there are a few open to dialogue. I'll keep trying to be nice though (within reason) 😉

  8. I've always been convinced that the majority of players is nice and that the rotten apples are grossly overestimated. And even nice players can sink and rob you because that's what the game is about!

  9. Met someone two days ago, went on a random string of adventures. Bullied some other sloops, dug up some treasure. Then out of nowhere a galleon tried to bully another sloop we had our eye on. We decided to turn the tables and go save the sloop, sunk the galleon together and went out own ways.

  10. Before the Safer Seas update, about 9 months ago, I decided to give SoT a try again(Original BETA Tester)…Final straw was a ship coming up on me at an island and, getting sunk wasn't an issue…just the game…but the Voice Chat war cray of "W**TE POWER!" had me ALT+F4, Uninstall and tell my eldest to uninstall the game and forbid it to be played.

  11. It’s definitely toxic they attack even if you don’t have loot or even if you just spawned in there’s a lot of toxic, childish players that don’t even know what the true private code is

  12. Its simply safer to assume hostility. I've had guys come up and offer me things and it end up being a bait, where they onetap me with their blunder and grab the most valuable thing off the deck while running my ship aground. The yelling is just part of any PvP game.

If there was a way to "parlay," where you could approach but it disabled your weapons and cannons and your crew was prevented from touching anything but say, ladders, but the other crew had free reign of your ship and could attack, THEN friendly action with strangers could more easily happen. Like a "Parlay" flare with a VERY obvious warning that it will disable your weapons, and be unable to pick up loot that isn't already on your own ship. And a very obvious signal to the other crew that you're submitting in order to offer an alliance, give away supplies or any other friendly action. And the parlay could only be disengaged once your ships are far enough apart. Parlay can't be engaged with any of your crew on a rowboat to prevent shenanigans, maybe disables rowboat usage for your crew.

Actually, that might be a neat thing. Its certainly a nice boost to have someone give you a storage crate with a bunch of supplies if you're logging off.

  13. Man, wish i could meet some friendly people while playing. Even as a newish player im taken out multiple times by groups on brigs and galleons who rather sink a solo slooper with little to no loot on board

  14. Merry Christmas. I just got the game with two of my friends and were really begining to lose faith in the game because everyone we ran into was hostile and tried to sink us. Thanks for uploding this video. I think now there is going to be an even bigger percentage of ships on the high seas because everyone not toxic af is in safer seas. Its very annoying for a new player trying to get some gold to at least look cool. Thank you for inspiring me to continue playing.

  15. Well, I would say yes. Let me explain:

2 days ago my two friends and I were at the start of a nice PvE session, when we spotted something that immediately catched our interest. A sloop was on the way to a nearby island, carrying the skull of siren song, which currently has a value of 100.000 gold coins due to the winter event. Since good pirates dont ignore such an opportunity, we quickly changed our plans and headed towards the island, arriving 5 minutes before the poor sloop. We searched for captain briggsy and used the "barrel" emote to perfectly blend into the surrounding landscape. When the sloop arrived, we catched them off guard (the didnt see the mermaid fortunately), beaten them quickly and handed in the skull ourself. The only thing I could hear from them is: "Are you f*cking serious?!" and they Alt+F4-ed. We did this manouver 3 times that day and always came out victorious.

So yes, you could call our behaviour toxic, but its called Sea of THIEVES after all, right?
