  1. The meaningless phrase 'mental health' is trotted out as a catch all excuse for behaviour society secretly deems acceptable. And why is Smith being credited for 'owning it'? He was caught red-handed! And he didn't take full responsibility – he immediately cited his struggles with mental health, obvs.

  2. If FIFO Workers and most other occupations have Zero Tolerance Policies so should the AFL. If they don’t they shouldn’t get the huge pays they are on..

  3. It’s gotta be done. He’s ruined his club’s chances this year even tho they were looking average. I think 2 years is questionable but it needs to be zero tolerance. Your representing the AFL, it’s really not that hard, don’t do drugs. Talk to someone, get help. It’s a million dollar business and the players well-being always comes first.

  4. I wanna see a free-for-all. Coke, steroids, meth, you name it. Anything to get a better chance over your competitors. I wanna see Spartans running around like thoroughbred horses. The whole drug issue in sports is useless anyway.

  5. Dont ya love the fact that AFL players have totally different laws unto themselves over the rest of the public? In ANY OTHER workplace you'd be sent packing….. But oh no, hang on, he's an AFL footballer adored by the masses and is allowed to play the "mental health card" to get to strike one !!!!!! Cry me river Bailey…….

  6. We're going to back our mates up in the game , yeah us old boys .
Nup . Enough . Ex players are ex players and should be put out to pasture .
Otherwise Phar Lap will be calling this year's Melbourne Cup

  7. Zero tolerance to drugs, whether in your system, or a photo of you holding a bag of something. Whether they are in season or out, 12 months suspension as a minimum. Whether you have mental health issues or not you can’t hide behind that fact. I scratch my head as Josh Thomas and Lachie Keefe were suspended for 2 years because ASADA got a hold of it.

This BS The Dogs got on the front foot, as did Bailey Smith should not matter, as Jeff Kennett stated 1 strike out for 2 years no pay. In the real world if the company you work for finds out you are doing drugs they would sack you in a heart beat, what is the difference? Because they are elite footballers they get away with it??

  8. I’ve met Bailey, he is a nice person and great player. However people forget that what he did is illegal. All these journos supporting him and the Bulldogs yet completely scrutinise Collingwood and Degoey for a simple holiday. Now everybody make mistakes and I think both Bailey and Jordan should be able to continue playing but I hate the double standards.

  9. Meanwhile the AFL promotes, and is sponsored by various betting agencies & alcohol companies, wonder how many lives are destroyed due to those..
We forget sometimes athletes are human and they make mistakes just like the rest of us.. If a athlete in his or her off season wants to smoke a J or snort a line of coke, I couldn't care less.. During the season is a big no, as it could affect an athletes performance..
