Is a Soviet shashka better than a medieval katana?

When it comes to Japanese katanas, most often you can find two completely opposite opinions. The first says that Japan is a country that does not have good iron ores, so the quality of the blades produced there has always left much to be desired.

The second indicates all kinds of complex processes of metal purification and notes that the smelting of steel from ferrous sands allowed to obtain alloy steel, that is, having quality-improving impurities.
