Of course Chopper recognized Ezra right away. Do you have any idea how many times that droid has seen Ezra in various imperial outfits during the years that the Rebel Alliance was forming?

I get why they don't hug. They never were that close in Rebels either. You see Ezra and Sabine hug Kanan two or three times but not Hera. Not because they're not close but because Hera never showed affection that way to the kids. I think its a cool twist that the jedi, father figure showed more affection than the mother figure. I think its still clear that Hera cared about them a lot. Also Hera is probably in shock. But the most likley reason is that those two actors were not there at the same time.

Two cool bits about this scene: 1) They included the Ghost at the end. 2) It's basically the same scene as the one that started this series, only with Ezra instead of the two faux Jedi.
Unless they explain how he miraculously found them and knew Hera would be there, I'm thinking Ezra could be a Trojan Horse… he escaped the Chimera far too easily.
It was like he was making sure Chopper was actually real.

This scene highllights the fundamental shortcoming of Filoni as a writer. He writes individual scenes, not a story. So the tension is contrived (from the helmet that never would have been on his head since he woud have been 1. shot upon arrival 2. sweating for no reason.). Just allowing an imperrial shuttle onboard (they have the footage from the prisonerr transport ship from episode 1 of this very show as to why this is a bad idea) would not have happened. Ezra would have had to identify himself before he could be allowed to land, but that would have eliminated the contrived tension, so you get this monstrosity of a scene.

i hope it's obvious to people that the final few scenes of this episode is an epilogue and not meant to imply that the closing events happened in quick succession. Writing and directing are forms of art folks, they're not always literal (almost never are).
