From Divine Council to AWGE to his own sauce with ‘SIDDHI,’ rap veteran ICYTWAT is just now settling in as an up-and-coming emcee. With over a decade of experience, mostly known for his innovative production skills, the seasoned producer-rapper has been a best-kept secret on the border of mainstream and underground acclaim. “I’ve just been so incognito for years, that even me doing this [interview] is out of the orindary,” he tells Hakeem Rowe in his first-ever on-camera interview — alluding to how focused he’s been over the course of his career.
Linking up with A$AP Rocky at the start of forming his AWGE collective in 2014-15, the Chicago-born rapper’s skin in the game stems from AWGE’s prolific presence alongside A$AP Mob. Interestingly, as Rocky has been openly preparing for his upcoming album ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ for the past three years, ICY and THOTO — who form the collective THOTTWAT — have performed these new tracks alongside Rocky at festivals such as Summer Smash and Rolling Loud recently. Boasting longtime co-signs from Rocky, A$AP Yams, Playboi Carti and Andre3000 — who both tout revered tracks with ICY in “Talk” and “Decemba” — his latest record ‘SIDDHI’ and deluxe in ‘SIDDHI WORLD’ fully embody ICYTWAT’s breadth of talent — both behind the boards and in the booth.
Admitting that he’s still getting his footing as a rapper, ICYTWAT is an undeniable OG in this space. The versatile dual-threat chopped it up with OGM host Hakeem Rowe, speaking on relationships with A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Andre3000, THOTTWAT, his hometown, producing, ‘SIDDHI WORLD,’ his upcoming joint project with THOTO and much more in our latest Our Generation Music exclusive.
