Last month EU4 celebrated it’s 9th birthday. Even though it’s an old game, it’s still very fresh and nice for player thanks to all the patches and DLCs. Today I’m gonna take you back to 2013 and show one of first versions of Europa Universalis IV… as Burgundy.

Ahh yes, the classic Burgundy-Liege war, but in early 2014 map xD
hey, im playing Ireland, just did a war against England and Portugal.. can someone tell me how it was possible for this to happen:
I called my ally Castile into the war.. but Portugal is allied to England.. & Castile is allied to Portugal, Castile happily warred Portugal
(I didn't co-beligerate cos I didn't want Castile to join against me & on the side of Portugal) – so how is it that Castile can happily be in
a war against Portugal and it somehow not break their alliance? In the peace deal I had no option to break alliance so I assumed it
had broken when the war started, yet I look after the peace deal and they are still allied. This makes no sense to me…
Sevilla was also an end node, you missed it though.
I started playing EU4 in 1.28 and even since then the game has seen some major changes. It’s wild how far it’s come since it was first released.
I still remember when every single province was a fort… good times
Imagine Big Blue Blob on this map with this AE
EU3 video when?
The Lithuanian borders on that patch with crimea and teutons-livonia was so cringe
You should play in every version
Now play EU1 with no DLCs
The game is close to unplayable, yet there's that cosy feeling which today's version doesn't have.
Paradox should bring back the terrain penalty to battle combat width.
I actually miss being able to take all of the treasury – when arriving in the new world there would be opm's sitting on piles of gold, not being able to expand. Remember taking something like 10k ducats from Poitiguara (I think they're called) in South America.
I was so hyped for that.
A nice reminder why I stayed playing eu3 for so long
Omg! I remember the Missions. It was a lovely feature. I mean we have state missions but they are boring.
Me who plays since 3 years whitout mods and dlcs
I actually wouldn’t mind more of these old versions. Started in 2018 and some of this stuff is downright mystical to me lol.
Ottoman ideas are way stronger but don't forget that there's no institutions in this version and they'll constantly pay 50 percent more for technologies as far as I remember so they're way better in the late version
The war system reminds me a little bit to vicky 2
25:08 that was actually funny
How did you get to the oldest patch?
I miss so much the brown bavaria, my first empire run ever
I remember when I as Venice declared war on Lübeck/Hansa just to steal their 6000 ducats 😄
im not sure if it was still possible in this patch but at the very beginning of eu4 if you had a bad Ruler you could make him a generel send him on a boat leading a single infantry and just wait for boat to sink
Dang that hits your right in the nostalgia feels. Played this game as well on release, played as portugal that had a massive colonial empire spanning from south america all the way into india. This game's come a long way though, with some good and bad dlc, overall though with the good coming out on top and though i'm not on an eu4 binge atm, playing stellaris, this game still gives me found memories from when i was still in highschool 🙂
Ahh EU4 when Ming wasn't banned because people thought it was too easy to shatter.
25:07 You start the battle with 0.5 morale?!? Edit: Maintenance LOL!
Also the Defensive Ideas gave +25% MORALE not manpower, so it's actually insane!
The manpower is useless in SP after ~100 yrs, the morale is actually broken
Crazy, I was a senior in high school when I found out about this, pirated it when it came out and played for about 30 hours before I decided "sure I'll buy this, I'm having fun"
Marriage, college, jobs, new friends, losing friends, losing family, gaining family; buying all the dlc and 2k hours later it's weird seeing this. Fond memories of playing France and getting steam rolled by England and Spain then losing to austria. Nice vid zlewikk, reminds me of staying up late during high school learning how to play this game (which I still am lmao)
its crazy that EU4 then looks more like EU3 then it does to EU4 today
I only ever played this version of the game. Once the DLCs started, and I refused to buy any, the base game started to break down.
And there we have the famous Burgundy-Liege war as early as in version 1.0 😛
16:28 it's even bigger becaue it was free on epic games so that mean there's around 5-10k more
wydaje mi sie czy ty polak rodak wariacie
You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like!
Why playing Burgundy sounds so funny?
12:00 You can scorch
20:40 Is Deus Vult first in religious??
This is such a nostalgic video tbh, havent seen for a long time EU4 in the release state, but i do remember all of the simplified things compared to the current patch. A lof of people are complaining about the DLC policy of Paradox but they are making the game strong with a lot of features and overhauls. I love EU4 and even tho EU4 will be replaced by a new game someday I will play it a lot since I have so many memories playing it, alone or with friends.
18:46 war reps require DLC in modern EU4
So the next episode is EUIII?
Now try EU3 then EU2 and finally EU1 to get the complete EU experience.
Honestly, the map and a lot of mechanics look to be straight from EU3, which makes sense since the game would still feel mostly familiar to those going from EU3 to EU4
Now I know why it was so easy to form Germany back in the days… So few states. much easier than today.
How is this even the same game?
I haven't played since launch, so everything here looks normal to me lol
So Paradox has always released half unfinished games
Your accent bro
clickbait. thumbnail says 1.0 but its 1.4
Liar
lorraine didn't change at all damn
