I tried to fix a dying city with Tram Suburbs in Cities Skylines

In this episode, we’re taking the first steps in tackling a growing demographic issue throughout the region of Coniferia, as thousands of people have retired within the last few years – without much replacement from younger generations. This has resulted in some 37 % of the population being seniors, putting a strain on tight finances. To fix this, we’ve got to start expanding with new neighbourhooods – and we have to make sure that they have the needed amenities for people wanting to establish new families – such as childcare, elementary school and high schools, commercial services and a good supply of affordable apartments and houses!

– What’s the rationale behind this project:
What happens if a washed-up-used-to-be-YouTuber gathers a bunch of “generic” looking assets (though mostly inspired by Australian / Canadian cityscapes) with the hopes of creating a Cities: Skylines region full of towns and cities that both look realistic and are inspired by Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, while at the same time don’t really replicate any one particular style? No idea, let’s find out.

Join me in this Cities: Skylines modded gameplay / let’s play / timelapse series as we expand the region, and build new infrastructure, highways, public transit, industrial pockets, NIMBY-neighbourhoods, sprawling suburbs and bustling downtowns. And of course, use tress excessively to cover up any imperfections!

Q & A:
Do you have a MOD/Asset list?
Step 1: Get the Skyve mod from Steam workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2881031511
Step 2: Get the Coniferia MOD collection here: https://pixeldrain.com/u/4Yf8smCr
Step 3: Use Skyve profile feature to import the MOD collection.

Which visual MODS do you use?
– Here’s the full list of enabled visual mods (I don’t know if some of these cancel out others): Relight, Render IT!, Ultimate Level of Detail, Clouds & Fog Toggler, Daylight Classic, Adaptive Prop Visibility Distance, Softer Shadows, Ultimate Eyecandy, ShadowStrengthAdjuster, Sharp Textures, Sun Shafts, AD Cloud Enabler, Shadow Distance Fix, 8K AD Clouds Pack 01.

  1. Great video!! One thing I wanted to suggest, if it is even possible, the fill area with intersection marking tool that you did under the tram tracks, could that be filled with a brick decal? In sone suburbs of Boston, the tracks were laid long ago and on bricks, which are still under the tracks, it just looks cool. I really love this build and would love to see how the airport was fixed in more detail at some point as I am pretty bad at making Airports and could learn from your experience.

  2. Hi Infra, lovely good old Coniferia episode, enjoyed it so much! New tram extensions are always welcomed, you know😏 Thank you for what you accomplish) Couple micro suggestions to consider: 1) New off ramp should only have right turn to avoid blocking trams, otherwise it duplicates the other ramp; 2) Tram tracks are not dedicated but that’s manageable until there is enormous traffic flowing through Elk hills to western side of the island; 3) Tram tracks on roundabout with an off ramp can lead to a disaster, as a major you can detour tracks from the road under the overpass, where they will merge with depot infrastructure and then flow into the road back again, in this case you will also eliminate need in that tram tunnel, which can be buried and it will open space for more medium size development on the east side of that major road win-win)
Just a small ask, if you could make a birds view shoot on Port Douglas in the next episode, so that we can play with current and future public transit😅 Anyway, you are the best in CS! Cheers, Michael

  3. How about Brookelynn? (Pronounced "Brooklyn".) The back story was that there was in the 1920s a developer named Henry Stanford Leavitt who bought a farm from a horse farmer named Scott Quincy Addams, who had a daughter named Brooke Lynn Addams. Mr. Addams wanted Mr. Leavitt to name his planned new streetcar suburb after the daughter. So Brookelynn was born.

  4. Very nice build. I like the fact that you decided to simplify some things in your build style while still maintaining a high level of detail and realism. It’ll help your build survive longer. Well done.

  5. Another fantastic video, Elk hills looks great, but maybe you should add a park or two, some tennis courts, a skate park, basically anything like that, for children and young families, anyway thanks again, already looking forward to seeing your next upload, Cheers 😀👍

  6. Man ur so creative, the city extension turned out very good looking 👏👏
Btw, one thing I thought about was that the trees/forest in front of the expensive single homes at the top of Elk Hills were a little too dense and too tall. They would probably "demand" a better view of the ocean+city👍
